As I had mentioned after the original matchup in this thread, I just couldn't understand the logic why most everyone thought a rematch was such a bad thing. Now admittedly, I don't care either way for either team (my team laid a giant egg in the ACC championship game yesterday) but if the "experts" are saying that these are the best 2 teams in the country... then who cares if they have played each other once this season already??? It will be interesting to see which one will get to play in the big dance. I know I am dreaming here, but MAYBE this debate about who DESERVES to be #2 can eventually push this stooopid BCS system over the edge (which they have teetered for years but somehow avoided) for a MUCH, MUCH, MUCH more sensible and interesting playoff system in college football!

Hi all, kind of new to this forum. I might have posted last year, but I don't recall. Anyway, we have app. 2/3 acre here behind deer fence, with all the rest (woods, fields, pond) not. As you've probably assumed, the fenced-in area is for my good stuff -- my daylily collection, hostas, and new-to-me veg garden. (Never have had one before.) At one end of the fenced area is a smallish barn -- with a nice little burrow letting out into my garden. One of the windows in my home office looks out onto the garden, and all this summer, I watched the resident woodchuck waddle out and start eating. He started with my broccoli before I knew he was there. I won't kill an animal, and I didn't have a Hav-a-Heart trap, so he (she? it?) and I immediately came to an understanding. He/she/it can eat all the grass, clover, and chickweed he/she/it wants. The daylilies, hostas, and veg are mine. And it's worked very well, probably because there is so much grass here. If he/she/it starts waddling too closely to the veg bed, I make a big to-do on the patio, jumping up and down & yelling. He/she/it immediately makes for the burrow. Yes I know, someone here's going to tell me it's just a matter of time before the thing destroys my garden, and I take to extreme measures. Nope, I'm with the Marsha who leaves unmowed grass and a natural buffet buffer for critters. If necessary, I'll buy a Hav-a-Heart trap, catch the thing, and release it in the state park down at the end of our lane. Anyway, maybe there's a lot of joking on this thread, but I am not reading through the whole thing to find out. :))) So my comments are actually pretty serious ones. Anyway again, I can't worry about one fat woodchuck -- not when I have mice behind the walls here and in the pantry and two cats who are sleeping on the job!

Hello, everybody. I have been lurking in the shadows for sometime, but am truly addicted to gardening. I live in the foothills of North Carolina and have up until this point been gardening out of my greenhouse and through propagation. Which I truly enjoy, but I am in graduate school and still work which has made keeping the greenhouse going so difficult in the late winter. I was thrilled to learn about wintersowing, although maybe a bit skeptical at first. I now however have many little sprouts and must say am becoming resentful of all the attention my little greenhouse seedlings are requiring. My little jug plants as I call them are essentially care free. Anyway, I have three acres of land and have devoted my summers to making beds everywhere. My husband is not as thrilled about this as I am, but he goes along with it. I am soooo happy to be on this site, where I can talk to people who enjoy gardening as much as I do and can help me answer questions. It is great to meet everyone

Hi everybody, Sorry I didn't get these pictures posted earlier, 'puter has been acting testy and I still don't have email working, but at least I'm back to posting! Here's some pics... Margie, I brought the Chocolate Dip, just love the foliage. They come true from seed, I started a pack of 20 seeds over the winter and 4 came up but one died from overwatering and I planted out 2. It's an outdoor plant, supposedly perennial, full sun to part shade. I don't know how it will do with reseeding, I was afraid of the name Hawkweed so I made sure to collect as much of the seed as I could! Hope you enjoy it!
