Check out the link below, larsi. I Think Rocogirl has the best advice on how to deal with this type of problem, with the Miele oven. I have done a lotta googling about the problem even ran into a site where 68 Miele Ovens had been installed in "UpScale Apartments". Many or most of the tenants were complaining about low temps and taking too long to bake. Check for yourself, Goggle Miele Oven Temps. From what I read and have read, it just seems to be the "Nature of the Beast' and Rococo's advice I think will help you the most."IE Use a Fudge Factor" (Paraphrasing) Most us folks here do not "Match" appliances (use the same manufacturer for every appliance). As has been stated by some of our experts here, "No one manufacturer Excells at every appliance", Not even Miele. I have a Miele Optima DW, it's Great. But I have an Elux Icon Oven---it too is great. Thank you for your Honesty, You are Obviously "Solidly in the Miele Camp" but it helps our users here "The Most", when we "Tell It Like It Is" Hope it works out for YOU!!!! Gary

I have the Master Chef 30" oven for almost 2 years and I haven't used the Master Chef settings once. So...of course that means I would say if you can buy a Miele oven without the MC settings, you'll be fine. Maybe one of these days I'll have to try it out. larsi said she didn't bake often, but I do bake often (mostly cookies, breads and pies) and my Miele oven is better than any other oven I've ever used, which was a surprise to me because I didn't think there could be a noticeable difference from one brand to another other than the extra features and the price. But, I've found the performance to be excellent and consistent, paired with good service from Miele. (total of 4 Miele appliances) When I read other threads about Miele oven owners having problems or non-Miele oven owners making negative remarks about the oven, I usually don't respond because my goal is not to sway someone's opinion into buying one brand over another. Everyone has their reasons for their appliance choices. Personally, I'd buy another Miele without giving it a 2nd thought. I have another oven at my baking center at the other end of the kitchen and how I wish I would have just sprung for two Miele ovens (even though I only use the 2nd oven 1 or 2 times a month). DH knows how much I like the Miele and our plan is to replace it with a Miele if it starts to be problematic, or we'll wait a few years and just change it out for a Miele. Maybe we'll get lucky and find a nice display model for a tempting price.

I've been using my broiler alot this season because my outdoor grill has been on the fritz. I've gotten excellent results. I've used the regular broiler because I'm just used to that mode and it's only the two of us. I use a broiler rack in a cookie sheet, nothing fancy. Usually use the 2nd rack from the top. If the meat is of reasonable thickness, I set the Temp to 525 or 550 to start. 550 was the only broil temp on my old standard oven. Then after I get a good char I may lower the temp down to 500. You may want to google "how to broil meat" and get some additional suggestions there. I don't believe there is anything different about the way a Miele oven broiler works compared to other ovens. I find that all the Miele preset temps are lower than what I normally use, so I changed them to what I'm more likely to use. Hope this helps.

The grease filter cover should come with the oven -- or they should have sent it to you under waranty. Bizarro. It has its quirks most definitely. Another one is that to lower an oven temperature setting while it's running, the oven must be turned off and turned back on to be reset at the lower temperature. Additionally, the timer goes to 59 minutes 59 seconds only. However, auto roast, intensive and the rotisserie are worth the price of admission IMO. Also being able to place food directly on the racks and having the drip pan is such a no-brainer. And the probe is my sous-chef.

I enjoyed it, but could do without Joe Bastianich (judge). I would have loved it if his mom Lidia was a judge. I have always found Joe to be very arrogant. I thought Ramsey and the other judge were good.

The "funeral potato" dish was disgusting, although Paula Dean would have loved the amount of butter and cheese LOL

We think much alike matti5! I dozed off earlier so I missed the shows so I went to the website to watch Hell's Kitchen and only saw one episode. Checked the TV logs and saw it was Master Chef afterward so I thought OK, should be good. Was pretty disappointed. I liked the people, like Ramsay and the fat guy but Pompous Joe makes me sick. Boy has he lost a lot of weight! He looks almost anorexic compared to on Lidia's shows where he was downright fat. But his snobbishness and self-centered attitude shined through. And it's not an entertaining one like Simon Cowell or others. Not sure I can stomach that arrogant assparagus. He always looks like he's had a couple too many glasses of wine. From what I've seen of his cooking on his mother's show, I certainly am not impressed with his culinary qualifications.

The one with her mother's recipes, the one with "slap yo mama!", the very first one chosen and a couple of the others really were entertaining. If dopey Joe weren't on there, it could be so much better. BTW, does anyone know if he actually owns the 20+ restaurants and 3 winerys or if they talking about Lidia's operations? Does he really have that many separate operations from her or is he taking credit for "nona's" stuff?

Although I suppose it could be worse. I'm rather surprised they didn't feel compelled to have a female on there too, and yes Lidia B. would have been a great fit. Not sure which would be worse, Joe or the cackling southern fried succubus. Oh wait a minute... yes I do. I guess it definitely could have been worse!

Cynic, yes we think alike! I was really excited about the show until I saw Joe walk out, then I was deflated. I didn't look at the show credits, but I'm assuming he is a producer.

Lidia's cooking show is my absolute favorite. I'd give anything to have a meal at her house (without Joe)! I noticed several months ago when Joe made an appearance that he had lost alot of weight. The body maybe slim, but the ego is massive. I occasionally see him cooking with Lidia, but it's only at her direction. His expertise is in wine parings or so he says. I'm not sure if he actually owns all that he mentioned. Lidia has built quite a little empire for her family. Kudos to her! I do know that Mario Batali is a partner with Joe and Lidia in a few of the restaurants.

I also agree that the other alternative you mentioned would have been worse.
