Interesting! I wouldn't mind giving up the job of husk and silk removal....

I'm 74 and just learned this and will never use any other method.

Corn was deliciously juicy, and the husk and silk came right off. No hassle.

I do recommend cutting the end off before putting in the microwave.

I've been doing my corn on the cob this way for a couple of summers, and agree that it is the very best. And the silk just comes off with the husk.

I did one, cause it's just me, and perfect after 4 minutes in the microwave.

It's the go-to method in my house (and my mom's). So easy. So tasty! I especially love only making it as I use it and the short length of time in the microwave. Wait, one more, it really does take every last single itty bitty silk off with the least amount of effort.

We've been doing that around here for a while, and I've sometimes suggested to folk who are shucking the husk in the store that they leave half of it on and microwave it.

My only question is...what about washing the corn before you eat it?

I've grown corn...I know what can be lurking under those husks...I like to rinse mine off first, so I don't think I want to try this

We have been making ours like that all summer. I didn't think you could cut the "stem" part off first. I'll try it that way next time.

I hate husking corn. I won't do it. When we discovered this method we were thrilled. DH actually goes up to people in the store while they are standing there husking their corn and tells them about this. So far, everyone he has told has taken at least 2 ears with them with the husk still on.

This method gets a thumbs up vote from me!

Some videos do show you cutting the end off first, others show cutting it off after cooking.

I cut mine off before microwaving and it was perfect.

Glenda, do you think it would work as well if the cook pulled back the husk and silk to wash off the corn, then rewapped the silk and husk and then microwaved it? Like Jean said, sometimes there are worms under there, and I like to make sure anything like that is gone before I cook and eat the corn. But this looks like a really nifty way to cook it!

I'm scratching my head over this, lol. I grew up in an area where fresh sweet corn was everywhere and a staple of our summer diet. Husking corn should take no longer than ten seconds....for real! Most of the silk will come off with the husks and the rest under the faucet. Once the water comes to a boil, corn only needs to be cooked for two to three minutes. And you can cook more than two ears at a time!

You may not know that sweet corn is a high pesticide agricultural crop. Much of those pesticides are on the husk....I would never, ever eat corn without removing the husks and rinsing the ears.

Now! If you're growing your own, that's different. Corn earworms probably microwave just fine.

Now that you guys mention it, I've grown corn and know what can lurk under the husks too. Plus Rhizo makes a good point about cooking time and pesticides.

I was surprised that corn cooks longer in the microwave than it does on top of the stove. I boil my pot full of corn less than 4 minutes.

I'm a happy husker and the wrap in wax paper...using turntable microwave.. quick and easy.

The folks who do the testing suggest that corn doesn't have a high residual pesticide problem but I think any produce should be well rinsed before eating. The creepy crawlers are another good reason to husk it first.

If you don't like the work or the mess, pre-cleaned and packaged corn ears are very available in my area during the summer, and so I presume in other areas too. While it's perhaps too expensive if feeding a large crowd, it's reasonable for a family-size quantity.

Snidely, the reason why sweet corn tests fairly low is because it is tested AFTER being husked. The chemicals accumulate on the husks.

My suggestion was that one remove about half of the husk.

What's the matter with you folks ... can't you stand a smidgeon of Boiled Bug?

Most of us remove the husk before eating ...

... and that;'s when one can check for Warmed Worm ...

... and remove it ... and wash the cob if it got squished.

In which case ... a small dose of knife applied to the area of the squish and a small adjacent area should clear up the problem ... plus wash the cob, should you feel the need.

Glenda, I've been using that method, too. I won't go back to shucking corn. I would think the microwave would kill any bacteria on the corn. Just a thought. As far as bugs, a lot of fresh fish has worms--and you don't even know it.

I forgot--did you hold the silk end with a potholder after you nuked it? The corn falls right out without a single silk on it. Woo hoo!!

I just grabbed the end with a kitchen towel and shook it out. Just be sure when you cut the end that came off the stalk, make sure you cut it all off or else the corn won't come out.

never have good luck with pre washed frozen corn...learned ages ago don't remove the husk to peak as it starts the sugar process...so we buy using size and weight...

It's absolutely the BEST corn we've ever had! No butter, no salt - just plain corn from the microwave... Not a single silk left behind.

I'll try it today. I just bought 4 ears at the Farmers Market. I like to mix my butter with lime juice and hot sauce. I'm on low sodium,no salt.

We did have one ear that had a worm in it, after it came out of the microwave..we took a knife and cut that part off. no more worm/;
