I guess I need to play with my Grandson's Map of US Puzzle a little more. I only got 80%. I'm not familiar with the Great Lake States and Dakotas.

I got a 94%, average error 14 miles. Had a little trouble with Rhode Island.

This is a great thread! There are so many considerations for us summer out/winter indoors people. In the summer I have cattleyas, dendrobiums, oncidiums, and bulbophyllums out on a porch, with direct sun in the morning and late afternoon, and shade overhead at midday. This year I put out paphs too, on the bottom shelf where they had more shade. Everything does very well and adds a lot of growth. In the winter, they all move to a sunroom facing west but with a south exposure too. Life for my orchids improved immensely when I added Wonderlites (in the west and south windows) and big humidity trays to this set up, and it cost very little. Most winter days it is about 60% humidity, high of 80 F and low 55F. I have a tiny space heater to boost heat on really cold nights. My electric bill is just $25-30 a month. It helps that this room can be closed off to retain the humidity. I have the catts in clay pots and water about once a week. I think the humidity helps them cope with drying out completely. Another factor I think is that I choose catts that aren't seasonal bloomers but bloom at various times of the year. Originally I chose them just because I wanted to get more blooms, but I also figure they have a built-in urge to keep growing and not go dormant when the light and heat wane. They make lots of leads and lots of blooms during winter. My only basket plants are brassavolas that I water every other day. Calvin, I think your plan to cut back on water and fert until you see signs of growth is exactly the way to go. Generally I think it's important to observe the plants really closely and follow their lead. By the way I suffered from tinted windows for a month or two before I realized what was going on, but mine came with a little label that warned against using ammonia or detergent to clean them. The anti-UV tint was just a surface film that was gone with a few vigorous washings. By the way, I also remove the screens in winter as they cut down on the light. Good luck and keep experimenting! I use Tide HE (used the liquid first because it was all I could find, but I found the powder at Target, and I think it cleans better than the liquid). I started with the recommended amounts, but then gradually reduced the amounts I used until I hit a "comfort zone" - where I think the clothes are still getting clean. From reading here, people think the manufacturers overstate the requirements, which of course means you use more/buy more detergent. What I've found is that I generally only need half the recommended amount to still get clean clothes. Well, that's a huge savings! I run the clean cycle on my machine once a month (which is a water and bleach only cycle), and do a hot load probably once a week.

That makes sense, forhgtv. My bed is iron in a marbelized finish and my dresser is pale yellow in a style called New French. In one corner, I have a ladies Victorian parlor chair in a pale finish like my dresser, and it is upholstered in raspberry velvet. I use blinds and valances on the tall windows which are on either side of the dresser. The valances are a floral print in blues, yellows, and pinks. I have three botanical rose prints above the bed, the center one being higher than the other two. The matting for the pictures is dusty blue, in a paisley pattern. Two of the prints have pink roses and the other has white. So, you see, I have a lot of pattern going on in the room. That's why I want simple bedding. I do have a coverlet in dusty blue. Would that be a better choice than a white or ivory matelasse coverlet?

I logged into Spotify today using an account that I created just with a Hotmail email address. I have a Hotmail account specifically for this kind of purpose. It only puts email into my inbox if the sender is in my address book, and all else goes into the junk folder. When I sign up for something, I go into the junk folder to find confirmation of the account, and I can then move that to my inbox or leave it as junk, if I do not want to be bothered again.

I found that frustrating to be so close but called wrong. FL got away from my mouse as I was dragging it. Even though I only got 80%, I knew fairly closely where every state went.

It's practically impossible to get 100% because the first few are like pin the tail on the donkey. I knew where the states belonged, but putting them exactly in the right spot with no surrounding states was tough for me.

Did you all click on the links beneath the map? I had fun bowling but was only slightly better than I was at geography!

98% Average error 1 mile

but when I was in 8th grade, every Friday, we had to fill out all the names of the states on a blank map (the states were outlined, though)--guess that sort of thing just stays with you.

88% with an average error of 27 miles. Not bad for a Canadian!!! LOL

I'm terrible in geography. I took this test a couple of years ago and did just as bad then as I'm sure I would do now.

90% 9 mile error 282 seconds.
I need a new mouse....this one is really old and sticks and jerks around.

Believe it or not, my school never taught geography. I thought maybe they had and I had daydreamed thru it but at a class reunion we were talking about it and no one remembers being taught geography. My daughter is better at it but not by much.

I was fairly close with the states I missed. I was dragging North Dakota and for some reason dropped it
and couldn't find where it went to and I couldn't
continue to finish it.

That was fun! I did about as well as I expected, which is not all that great. Score of 84% with an average error of 29 miles.

This time I got 39 out of 50 with 78% 60 mile error!! those tiny little states in the NE got me.

Looking at the map in this way got me to thinking what an impact those 13 original states made on the world

90%; 17 mile error. I could've done better but dropped Florida as I was dragging it across the map.
