It's Time to Introduce 'CeCe' ! His Story w/Pics (long)

To tell his story, I have to go back a bit! Some of you may remember we had a cat named Dusty! Dusty was solid gray, except for a tiny white spot on her chest. We'd had Dusty for almost 21yrs.! She wasn't a very sweet or loving cat. She lived here, we fed her and pretty much left her alone. She didn't want to be bothered/petted at all. Needless to say..after 21yrs. she'd pretty much "worn out her welcome"!lol Ronnie & I had decided when Dusty "went over the bridge"....we'd never have another cat! Dusty died last Summer and we became a cat-less household and everyone was pretty content!

CeCe's Story: Ronnie died June 21,2008 and within minutes my house and yard was full of people! Emergency people...friends...family,etc. People were everywhere! At some point I remember collapsing and just sitting down on the sidewalk! People are all around me..trying to fix something that can't be fixed....when up walks this solid gray kitty! He walks through all the people..and straight up to me. Someone asked if he was my cat and I said NO...I don't have a cat! He's not the least bit frightened or intiminated by all the people. I'm not in a frame of mind to give much thought to a stray cat that's shown up. I eventually ended up on the front porch, in a chair, in the corner! The porch is still full of people wandering around..and this cat comes up looking in the screen-door. Jasper, my Shih-Tzu doesn't like cats AT ALL. He barked and the cat just stood there. My friends husband was sitting beside the door, and he opened it and the cat walks in like he's lived here for years..like he's HOME!! He comes over and jumps up in the chair with me, then gets down and wanders over to ANDY! My friends husband said "Brenda..there's your comfort"!? I told him that NO...it was a d@mn cat!" lol I cautioned everyone to NOT feed him (you feed 'em, they never go away). I'm not sure who put him back outside or when..but I know he was stretched out in front of the screen-door the next morning! AND..he was still here the NEXT morning! This cat wasn't about to go anywhere! If he had a home...he'd moved! haha Everyone just just amazed that he wouldn't leave. I knew when I told someone to go get litter and a pan...AND cat food..that WE had a new pet! He made friends with Jasper right off (they are now "best-buds"). Andy named him CeCe (Comfort Cat)! He knows and comes when his name is called! He has the sweetest personality and is so loving. Last Sat. night (3 weeks since I lost Ronnie) I was kind of having a hard time. Everything seemed almost the same as it was THAT Sat. night. I was home alone, my neighbor was gone..Andy was gone..and then around 9:30..I heard sirens! Just kind of weird! I talked with a friend on the phone for a little bit, then got ready to go to bed. I usually crash out on the couch watching TV. That night, when I laid down, CeCe jumped up on the coffee table and just sat there for a minute staring at me. Then, he jumped over on the couch, walked to the pillow and got comfy..right behind my head. He was still there the next morning when I woke up. He'd never done that before..and hasn't done it since. Now his bed of choice is in the floor..BESIDE the couch!

So..now I'd like to introduce you to CeCe!!

You really can't tell in the picture, but Jasper is wearing a John Deere collar that I'd got for him a couple of weeks before Ronnie died! AND..by this time next week, CeCe should be sporting his OWN John Deere collar...thanks to our Liz_GA!! CeCe says THANKS Liz!*S*

Its so nice to see faces with the names, and even nicer to see roses with the faces. Im Renee, 49, a history professor married to Mike, an archaeologist. We live in Simi Valley on a semi-rural half-acre lot in the house grandpa built (I use the term "built" loosely), which we have slowly rebuilt over the last ten years. No kids. We have a twenty-eight-toed orange cat, named Sam; a yellow lab named Sam; two Wyandotte chickens named Quasimodo and Blanche; and a pond full of goldfish of which only a few have been graced with identities. Mike also feeds an assortment of finches, scrub jays, and fence lizards, the last of which now run up to people with sandals on and bite the toes to make the toes cough up mealworms. My mother gave me the gardening bug and shes still my main enabler. I spent my years in college planting seeds in dry, narrow, dark apartment "beds" or balcony pots, shuffling pitchers of water to them from the kitchen sink. Since then, I have remained an astonishingly ignorant and lazy gardener with no foresight or sense of planning. My garden has grown in an entirely haphazard fashion over the years and makes no sense in terms of high-water/low water needs, design principles, shade/sun needs, color combos, irrigation systems I never cared for roses. The roses I knew as a kid were left to their own devices on the edges of unkempt Bermuda lawns, so that the grass would grow up through the rose and the lone juniper or zonal geranium next to it. Ick. Then I started looking at the photos in the Rose Gallery. Yeah. I dug a new bed and planted it with roses; Mike built new arbors for roses, I am talking my both neighbors into planting roses in the middle of a drought. This forum has saved me from making several serious mistakes, and I thank all of you for your suggestions and wisdom. I am also heartened by your stories of how to cope with disability and continue to garden. Hooray for the Rose Forum! Isabelle is scheduled for surgery on the 18th. She was also diagnosed with entropion. This made me think about Jeeves... I'll be he didn't spend all of his years with his eyelashes in his eyes as Isabelle hasn't either. He eye lids are starting to roll into her eyes so we're having it taken care of. This is pretty common with bulldogs as they get older and the wrinkly face bulldogs like Jeeves and Isabelle are much more prone to it than some. I shopped around as this surgery can be expensive. UC Davis, our teaching hospital, cost the most, at $1500. A close second was her Eye Dr., at $1250. The vets that our area uses as a trauma hospital was only $650. Still expensive, coming off poor Dubs medical expenses but they are also the closest. Sueb, have you had your white dog checked for this recently? It could be just the way it is laying in the photo but those eyes look a bit suspicious to me. Kind of pink around the rims and bulgy. You can better judge in real life.

Hello :D I am Marie and live in Wyoming (the only WY person on these forms I think LOL) I have 2 children: Son is 25 and is blessing me with my first Grandbaby in April :) and my daughter just turned 16. Besides quilting and other crafts, I am an avid FOOTBALL fan (my friends & family say it is more of an obsession) and love to fish. I attempted sewing on my Grandmothers antique trendle machine, yes the ones before electricity with a leather belt. It was great fun but didn't really accomplish anything per say, I still have it but it is just for looks now. I really didn't get interested in sewing until I was pregnate with my son. I made my first one out of 2 - 2yd pieces of blue/white plaid cotton and dark blue flannel for the back. I bought satin binding, hand sewed every thing on and hand tied it with plain white yarn, then made one similar for my son but with little boy print for the front. I still have them and use the blue one for watching movies with my daughter. My Mom's, mom gave me all of her counted cross stitch books and I did that for the most part with a little crocheting/knitting until 3 or 4 years ago. I decided to try making a quilt with blocks after checking out this site and have been hooked ever since. I enjoy being in the Quilt RR and BB Block exchange - learning something new all the time. I love to be outside and grow just about everything: veggies and all types of flowers in the summer (LOVE Daylilys & Iris) and have lots of house plants and will try any type of seed. I have 6 Avacodo's growing now - not sure what I am going to do with them all when they get to be TREE's but they are fun. Oh, a new one sprouted last week and has 3 sprouts from one seed! very cool IMO I really enjoy seeing what others are doing - gives me great idea's for new projects. I have 5 to 10 going at an given time to keep from getting bored. I decided to go back to school for Archaeology this fall, I'm enjoying myself but it sure does cut into my crafting/quilting time... So my goal for this weekend it to finish up the September BB's and also my RR row and center. Have a great weekend all! Need help with paint choices two story foyer w/chair rail

I wanted to post some after photos and thank everyone who took the time to comment. It turns out that the wall was "indented" when we removed the chair rail so my DH has spent several weekends to build it back up with joint compound and texture it to blend in with the walls. It was a painfully tedious process (first trying to do it by hand, then with a sponge, then with spray-on compound that dribbled everywhere, and finally with a trowel lightly loading dabs of compound on). If you look closely you can still tell, but it's not as glaring as it was several iterations ago. Suffice to say, we are thrilled to be done with sanding, priming, texturing, and painting! Now, I need to figure out what wall decor to put up as the removal of the chair rail makes it a much easier space to deal with! Any and all advice would be appreciated. I was thinking of doing a photo gallery near the front entry, but that is a HUGE wall and I don't know that I can put photos high enough where you can still see them but not so low that the wall looks off-balance. Forgive the quality of the photos, taken without a flash on my iPhone.

Wow, what a story! This is the first I heard about your Ronnie, I must have missed the post. I am so sorry for your lost.

Sometimes pets find us, especially when we aren't looking. It has happened to me. I hope CeCe does bring you comfort in the years ahead. BTW, he is a beautiful cat. And I love the way Jasper lies on the floor with both feet out like that. And how cute they are together.

I love that story and love that you have a comfort cat. You are both blessed to have each other and knowing that Jasper approves makes it all the better.

Oh Bump! I am sitting here with tears running down my face! CeCe is such a beautiful angel that was sent to you.

Won't go into a whole bunch of detail, but the day my mom died (I was 12) we had a stray dog come onto the farm...and if there is one thing you DON'T want, is a stray dog on a farm. My dad and brothers shot at her, (towards her...NOT to hurt her, to tell her to git!) she kept coming back. Finally after crying and pleading, dad let her stay. Lady was my protector and my best friend. It was like mom wanted to make sure there would be someone at the house to look after me while dad was in the fields.

Oh my, do I BELIEVE in angels!

With all the prayers that went out for you when Ronnie died, it doesn't surprise me that you were sent a furry angel to help comfort you, Bump. Prayers are answered. And I think that's the reason he adjusted to his name so quickly ... Comfort is his assigned mission!

This is a great story. We have a Scottish Fold cat. When my FIL was sick and moved in with us, BozLee would never leave his side. Ever. When FIL got up to eat, he would get up, eat, use the litter box and be right back by FIL's side. This went on for about a year. My FIL passed away on Christmas morning in 2002. BozLee has never been the same since. He has been in a state of depression since. When we got him, he was DH's cat...always next to him. Cats I believe, can sense when someone needs them. CeCe sensed that in you.

I also want to tell you I'm so sorry about Ronnie's passing. I haven't been on the board as much lately because my company has started blocking a lot of websites (the nerve of them - seriously!!) but I wanted you to know my heart has been heavy for you and I've thought about you often.

I'm very pleased to hear another little soulmate found his home. I wish you and CeCe many healthy, happy years ahead.

I've been blessed with more than one cat who 'found' me, and who were sooo loving, smart and not so independent...and did come when called. :)

Then there's my little Stash girl who's caused a hole in my heart about her size. ;-) My little soul mate, bless her..she's 14 now and still doing so well.
