My 86-year-old neighbor with no aches or pains

Laura is pretty amazing. She did give up her huge flower beds, but I had to give up mine a lot sooner. At 86, she's out there picking blueberries, etc, and told me she has no aches or pains whatsoever. She just gets a little more tired than she used to.

So today I was chatting with her son, and he agreed that she's remarkable. I said, "Does she have a secret to a pain-free long life?" I asked half in jest, not really expecting to hear anything useful. But he said, "Wild plants."

He explained that his mother has been foraging for wild edible plants her entire life. She regularly eats dandelions, purslane, and a bunch of others I'm not familiar with. It certainly sounded like this diet has profoundly affected her health in old age.

I'm not inspired to go out and forage . . . it requires some study to ensure you know what you're doing, for one thing. But I thought this was interesting.
