Another Use For The Laundry Detergent

Well, as usual one of the kitties threw up on the carpet. Walked out of the kitchen to the livingroom. Might as well hoark on something comfy, I guess.

I keep some concentrate in a plastic hair gel container and I squeeze it onto any stains. So I squirted a bunch on the kitty mess and scrubbed it with my brush. Out it came, beautifully.

So it's a multi-use product, for sure.

Which brand. Our carpet has gone from brand new cream to "Purenia yellow" over the past two years. REALLY wish they wouldn't put food colorings inc at food!!!!!

Ooops, I should clarify.
I meant the Homemade Laundry Detergent. Sorry. This was an active thread a week or so ago. Love this stuff, as do other KT'ers.

Give it away to pet shelter. Or use it as a qualified all-purpose cleaner for certain things. My particular fave is for washing cat litter boxes and pet carriers. Occasionally I odds and ends of non-favorite detergent for initial scrubbing down of auction or CL finds. (I don't use detergent out of doors where it would stay on surface and perhaps wash into streams, only indoors in my utility sink.) HTH, L

@ larsi There actually may be optical brighteners in Tide HE Total Care. If you look at the ingredients list on the US site, there are no OBAs in Total Care. However, if you pull the same ingredients list from the Canadian Tide web site, you will see a more complete ingredients list including OBAs. Regardless, if Total Care contains OBAs, I don't find that they fade darker clothing. I've been washing most of my clothes in Total Care. If anything, my colors appear to be getting richer and black garments are having no trouble retaining their blackness. I know you're probably not supposed to use Total Care on silks or other protein-based fibers since Total Care contains protease, but I used it on a load of silk dress shirts. Previously these shirts had been washed many times with Vaska, which has not removed certain light stains. While the shirts felt soft after washing in Vaska and ironing, they have become stiff after hanging in the closet for a week or two. Washing once in Total Care (w/ fabric softener) removed the stain and left my silk shirts feeling like new. I dried them in the dryer on delicate, pulled them out while still slightly damp, and hung them in the closet to dry. No ironing needed and the shirts all look and feel much better than they did before.

When I was first married I worked in the office at an appliance and hardware store that kept their own in store service department. Remember those days? A licensed appliance repair person (he really was our own 'maytag man'), drove a store van stocked with parts and there were more in the storage room at the store so a service call was a one stop accomplishment ;) The service man taught all of us younger women how to do laundry and it stuck. I don't understand how the pods would work for me (I do use them in my dishwasher)...one of his rules was start with about half the amount of soap indicated on the box or jug. Lift the lid and check, is it too much, or a load more heavily soiled where more might be required. He pointed out like fertilizer companies, soap companies are in the business of selling soap and the more you use, the bigger their profit whether good for your machine or your clothes. I've never in my life used the full measurement of soap when doing laundry. I've seen the Persil mentioned on the laundry forum but haven't seen it in a store. I buy powered Tide at Costco, the HE version now, and I don't buy it very often, a box lasts months and I do some heavily soiled laundry.

The "Shredmore" means shreds clothes but to me I would say more like rough on them especially in long wash cycles hence why I said no need in turning machine back for 2-3 wash cycles. Lots of roughness in that time span. You know Whirlpool used the same agitation but about the last 6 minutes of wash it would slow down to slow wash and finish the cycle that way. I will say, for me, that slow is too slow for towels, everyday clothes as they have it listed as "Normal" on the speed switch. They barely roll over on that speed unless lightly loaded and full of water. Personally, if I was washing t-shirts just normally worn soil, if using Fast I would set it for 6 minutes. That's plenty of time(although some may disagree here) but no sense in washing the life out of them when they don't have ground in dirt--that would be a different story.

If this happens again and you don't have a batch of the Homemade Detergent handy, just spray regular Lysol disinfectant spray on the spot. Wipe it with a white cloth and the spot will disappear. There will be no sticky residue and no discoloration. And the spot has been sanitized as well.

This works on dirty spots on a carpet. A carpet cleaning rep. told me about this several years ago, and this has worked every single time.

You are so smart Jasdip...I LOVE learning from you. Although I had to laugh when you said that that your kitty "Might as well hoark on something comfy, I guess." Wow, that really made me laugh out loud, I guess because it reminds me of my dog Skye...She will eat her little heart out and will she hoark on the linoleum? Heck no, she will trot over to the couch and hack up the prize there. Ick!! I got wise, I have a couch cover! (;-)

LOL rthummer!! Skye and her "prize." The things we put up with from our "kids." Only an animal lover would understand.
My brother doesn't like animals at all......where the heck did HE come from? He can't see the humour or understand my fondness for my pets.

BTW, not sure what your handle means or stands for. I'm always tempted to call you RT as a short form. Would that make sense, or would Thummer or Hummer be a short-form?

My vet has 2 Labs in her house. They have mostly wood laminate floors except for some small rugs. She said the dogs always to go the rugs to hack up.
