Going on Vacation

My cousin arrived on Wednesday evening. He rode his motorcycle from Tampa and will be going with us on this trip. We have the RV all packed, just have to hook up and load the cats in the truck and we will be off.

I am really looking forward to this vacation since we are taking the trike and will do day trips to all the points of interest in the areas we will be going to. This is our itinerary.

June 12 Las Cruces, NM

June 13 Bernalillo, NM

June 17 Amarillo, TX

June 21 Goodland KS

June 22 Custer, SD

July 1 Medora, ND

July 6 Hardin, MT

July 9 Great Falls, MT

July 10 St Mary, MT

July 15 Townsend, MT

July 17 West Yellowstone, MT

July 21 Brigham City, UT

July 22 Cedar City, UT

July 24 Barstow, CA

July 25 San Diego, CA

July 28 Gila Bend, AZ

July 29 Home

Total RV miles 4,467

I will have internet access most of the time and will post some pictures and let you know how things are going. Right now the plan is to ride my trike along with my cousin to Las Cruces, NM. When we get there we plan to go to the Mesilla.

Since Mike will be traveling slower than we will we will head to the Mesilla as soon as we get to Las Cruces. Mike will call us when he arrives at the KOA. We will only be spend the night there and then headed to the Albuquerque area for a few days.

Sounds like a great vacation! The only place I have been on your list is Medora, ND. Hope you have time to see the show there and eat some pitchfork steaks. :o) Take lots of pictures and have a great time.

Wow Nita..that is a road trip to beat all road trips! Aren't you glad you have the beautiful 5th wheeler to relax in at night?

Do you have any close neighbors or family willing to stop by in your yard every 2 days or so to soak your plants for a few minutes? Thats probably your best bet. Look at your forecast and if there is a lot of rain in it, you could probably get away with putting your plants in complete shade (so they dont dry out) and letting mother nature take care of the rest. I agree.........although some cats crave contact with humans on a regular basis, it's often with select humans and not humans in general. Cats are very sensitive to their surroundings and often do better without their humans in familiar surroundings than in unfamiliar territory with humans they do know (like visiting at the vets) or worse yet, in unfamiliar surroundings with unfamiliar people. What you may consider is to give your vet a head's up that your cat may be brought in by another party if needed and he/she has the authority to do it for care or boarding. Then let your neighbor take over. It may fly very well and he'll have no difficulties. If he does, however, he can take the cat to the vet for boarding with your prior permission. If this happens, the cat may stop eating for awhile and do their separation thing, but it would be monitored and they won't let the situation get too out of hand. The important thing for a twelve day hiatus, is that the person whom you trust to feed your cat is completely trustworthy to actually come in and do it on a daily basis. You may want to take their phone number and make a call every three days to monitor their success. I have routinely done this for my daughter and her spouse when they travel out of country, and even though the cats know me well..........they will do the hiding routine for the first couple days. So, if your neighbor is not familiar with cat quirks, remind him to check the food dish/water dish/ and contents of the cat's pan to make sure the contents of the appropriate receptacles are either disappearing or accumulating. LOL. He may never even catch sight of the cat, is what I am saying.

What a wonderful trip this will be. Our 32 days, and 12,000 mile trips 'out west' didn't include 'all the comforts of home' (LOL) but we enjoyed many of the places you will be seeing.
Cedar City is one of the few places we spent more than one night in. So much beauty to see around there. Also spent 2 nights in Amarillo with a disabled cycle. Not that much to see, but wonderful Gold Wing members rescued us.
Will you be taking in The White Sands National Monument in New Mexico? I was most fascinated with it.

Nita, and all, have a wonderful vacation...may it never rain on your parade. Keep the shiny side up!

When I lived in New Mexico I was only about two hours from Mesilla. You'll love it. If you want to take the long way to Albuquerque you could go through Silver City, NM. I could give you a long list of attractions in that area.
How I miss those spectacular NM sunsets.

Nita...lol...you go on so many trips I would think it would be a "vacation" just to get to go home and rest..

Have a great time...and keep in touch with us...we'll want to hear what good times you are having.

I haven't been on a vacation since we went to Tex in 03 and Denny had that darned stroke.

I've been to Custer, SD, Cedar City, UT, Barstow and San Diego. I am sure you will have a wonderful trip. Lots of sights to see. I loved going to Custer a couple of years ago.

nita why barstow? it's really the pits...i'd stay in vegas then drive to san diego...it's about a 5 hour trip. we used to do it all the time whem mother lived there, and we san diego...

have you ever driven the pass from victorville to san bernardino? it's quite a drop in elevation..be sure to take extra care if it's windy at all...
