It's time to say Good-bye !

I wont have computer much for the next 3 weeks.

A nice group of people from our church came this evening and packed almost all our stuff into the storage garage.

(I really don't think we thinned things out enough!)

Our house echoes and we just have our mattress on the floor, the kitchen table and chairs (we are leaving it for the new people) a little TV and my computer. We have a pizza in the oven and our suit cases packed.

On Sunday we are going to our DS's house about 1 1/2 hours away

After almost 39 years it sure seems strange to be leaving here for the last time.

Yesterday we FINALLY got the SIGNED papers for the house we are buying! That is a great relief to us. Closing is scheduled for July 18th.

The Minnesota get-together is on July 26th. Don't be alarmed when you don't hear from me in the mean time. Since Nita will be staying with us, she will keep track of things. I will be calling her.

If my ears are itching while I'm gone, I'll know it's your fault! LOL

I hate being out of touch with my whole world.

This has been a long time coming for you. I'm glad t's finally here and also that you had some people to help you. I know you're relieved you finally got the papers signed. I hope the closing goes smoothly. Best of luck to you. We're going to miss you.

For most of zone 7 the growing season ends around the 1st of november to the 15 of november. Good thing about living along the coast is frost comes pretty late in the fall because the sea temperatures are still fairly warm from the summer The northeast and mid atlantic should watch out on friday morning though, because many areas will be getting a hard frost, that includes NYC, philly, and maybe DC, (as well as all the coastal areas which are the few areas that havent gotten a frost yeton the eastern seabord). Also those spike plants are very close relatives to ti plants. Spike plants are also known as Cabbage trees and can grow really large (and look quite tropical too). They are cold tolerant to 10F making them zone 8 plants, but Ive seen a some survive zone 7 winters in pots. I saw someone near me planted them in the ground and they survived three winters with no protection at all and were in very exposed areas. They got to be almost 4 feet tall, and if they were protected that one cold night, they would probably still be alive today. Good luck.

Wow, NHB - that is one gorgeous view. We've seen our share of houses perched on mountain sides and that's not for us. I love the more rolling land with the distance views of the mountains. It's not all about the land, of course, it's also lifestyle, and we love the slightly off kilter, hippy aspect aspects of Asheville along with the great dining, outdoor activities, entertainment options, the variety of festivals in the area etc. Last year we went down there with friends for LoxFest which was a hoot! bgj your trips to Knoxville sound like ours to Asheville, looking for the area that fits and is far enough away for peace but still allows us to get there and enjoy the aspects we love. I do want to go to Oak Ridge, though, just to see it! I would prefer to find an existing home and remodel it like we did this one but we haven't seen anything worth putting the time and $$ into. Biggest issue for DH is he won't accept a block basement, it has to be poured so I imagine we'll build. that's another thing to freak out about. We want a smallish house on acreage and if the land is there the house is 3500 sq ft and up - way more than I want to deal with. ellendi I hear you on the need for medical care. Privacy vs isolation is the tricky part but DH and I are partners and neither one of us is going to play the martyr for the other. We'll find a balance or we'll move on. Bottom line is, when I'm happy, he's happy ;-) bpathome we're really neighbors, you know? Several friends live on the main drag east of town. You probably knew/know one or two. And do not get me started on the library! That is honestly one of the hardest things for me to leave - we have the BEST library. shee that fixture is from Sea Gull Lighting but it's old and certainly not current stock. I spray painted it with Rustoleum ORB paint years ago when the look of brass was totally passé.

So sorry, Shee, that you've lost a treasured friend after all these years. Not long ago I saw a shirt emblazoned with this: Be the Person Your Dog Thinks You Are and was struck with the truth of that simple saying, which of course goes for cats and all our dear pets. They revere us even when we do not deserve it, and that's a humbling perspective as an "owner." Your cat obviously loved you and your whole family and I know his loss must have been very hard. <3

Thanks Romogen. I will research Helen Naude. Sarah, that's my attitude now too. An opportunity. Also, I've changed. I want more fragrance. I like the delicate coloring on Pristine but not at the loss of fragrance. I've heard Moonstone might be nice too but I think I'll try something completely different. sabalmatt, I thought Reine des voilettes was so popular. Again, location is so important. It seems there are a lot of Southern members on the forum and I appreciate their enticing pictures but their roses probably won't do as well in my cool, damp city. I need to go to the local rose garden this summer to see what roses do well in the PNW and keep a list. Same with me regarding space. I need to pay attention to each rose bush and not wait so long in deciding to toss it. I know some Austin's need more time to establish but it doesn't seem to take long to tell how well a HT will do and if you like it.

I loved your back yard and your home during my first kt gathering. Maybe empathy, maybe I'm a sap but I feel a little sad.

Are you staying with your DS the whole 3 weeks? If so, maybe you can check in, Judy. Have a great move, and yes, a bittersweet goodbye with your home. But, on to new adventures! See you soon.

Yes the whole 3 weeks at our son's. If there is anyone we can survive 3 weeks with, it would be them. I'm sure we will have a great time. We have 2 days that we need to come back to St Cloud. I'm sure on those days we will make a trip PAST the house. ;o)

I will be able to get on the computer at times, I just want to be sure I don't over due it, as I can so easily do.

Judy, you are leaving your house, and I slept in my new one. Soon you will be able to say this too.

We stayed on our camping mattresses in our house. I didn't sleep well. Weird, as I usually sleep well on that mattress, but in a tent. Maybe I should have pitched mine? LOL

We spent all day yesterday cleaning (sweeping out cabinets and washing them out). Sure is messy cleaning up after others. I am tired of that.

I hope, yours will be clean enough to pass the white glove test.

Enjoy your time with your son.
