I actually remember this story (I would have been 16 or 17 at the time)... I certainly think anyone who does something like this and puts this many lives at stake should never be eligible for parole.
I remember the story also, since we still lived in the Bay Area at the time. I was scared to death to let my kids out of the house. No way they should ever be released.
I sure remember it. It must have been a huge story, cause I lived in MN, just like now. And I think they did do some kind of movie about it. Stuff like that didn't happen then, or was more shocking, anyhow.
I lived in the Merced area for 3 years and friends had a skating rink in Chowchilla where we skated. This happened a few years after we left. Yes they did a movie of this. I don't think the guy should get out of prison. They will probably have to guard him for the rest of his life.
Actually, several of the victims have spoken out FOR this man's release. And so have the lead prosecutor in the case and the lead Sheriff's detective. Richard was considered a follower, not involved with the planning, just along for the ride.
The other two men, one of whom is Schoenfeld's brother, are not considered eligible for parole.
