The Kitchen Table

One more week and a day of FREEDOM!

Freedom from work, that is. LOL! It's going to be a busy week. Both kids have eye dr and dental appointments, trying to get rid of the pool and hot tub, cleaning up the yard after their removal. I also have to take some screens in to have them fixed, so was going to borrow my friend's car but now she and I are taking them in and going out to eat at Cracker Barrel. Wednesday I finally have a free Wednesday to take Alex to get his learner's permit. He hasn't complained much even though his birthday was way back in February.

I'm just dreading going back to work. I know it's going to go by fast too because of the busy week ahead.

Tomorrow morning Lauren and I are going to a botanical garden in Lexington. I'm looking forward to that, haven't been to one in a long time and it's free! Then I have to call the lawn mower guy and find out if he fixed my mower, pick it up and then take Lauren to the eye dr. Hopefully, sometime during the day the guy who wants the pool will call me. His brother was going to come tomorrow to check it out, but decided to come by this evening.

Kathy, have you looked for another job? Life is too short to dread going back to work.

I would have to work 20 more years to retire from any other hospital I went to. I have 10 years where I am. I'm staying. Hopefully, after Alex leaves for college and Lauren is a little older I'll find a job in one of the clinics, which won't be so bad. I'd go now but they have too many appointments through the week, would be hard to get out of work in a clinic to go to them.

I feel it wicha, its 58F here in the mornings and will be 85F all week, I think we hit 90F on Sunday. Still great weather but I do watch nightly lows about this time of the year, just to keep an eye on whats going on. I dont start bring plants in until I start seeing low 40's, then I start getting nervous. LOL. Whats sad about all this is, you work all spring,summer, and fall growing your plants, and then its time to put everything up. Its like play time is over, clean up your room, put your toys away. Its so sad, I look out my window and realize that yet another winter is coming upon us and I must pack up my palms and send them to a warmer place (greenhouse). I think they enjoy it as its warm and damp. They test their limits with spear tossing to see who will break the poly on the greenhouse first. The spindle will eventually win, as it sticks its long sharp spear upward toward the light. My queen just sits and gawks as she watches, pushing up her elegant feathered leaves upward toward the sky. The young palms sit and watch as they drink coco by the warm fire and they listen to the older palms tell stories about their past summer experiences. The bananas chime in on cue as the pineapples bath in their watery bath. Life is good, the weather is cold and everyone is still.

They are usually called "big round" bales. We used to bale this way, but we have gone to "big square" bales, as they are easier to stack high. We also bale regular square bales - those are the smaller ones that you can pick up by hand. My 16 year old DD does the small square baling! We also bale brome hay. When it is cut is called "swathing" or "mowing". It is layed in "windrows" by the swather. The baler moves over these and rolls it up into bales, or packs it into squares. In our big square bales, the hay is actually cut into small pieces as it is baled up. That way we can break the bale open and put it in a feed mixer wagon with corn, corn silage, and protein, to make a "ration" to feed cattle with. We also bale some alfalfa. You get several "cuttings" from alfalfa. Alfalfa is a high protein hay. It is usually a 99% guarantee that if you have hay down - it will rain, LOL! If it rains on it or it is very damp out, we "rake" the hay. It rolls the windrows over so they can dry better. I rake hay sometimes.

My DS and DDIL decided to be surprised with both of my grandchildren. After having 3 boys, this Nana really wanted a little girl but most everyone in the family was rooting for the first baby to be a boy. Well, I got my wish and finally had my little girl. 13 months later, she became a big sister to an adorable little brother. At the time, I was chomping at the bit to know the sex of those babies but now, looking back, I think being surprised was really neat.

That's why I took early retirement at age 54., total burnout after over 30 years.
Alabama has a great teacher retirement plan, and I was lucky! No regrets.

You are just a youngster. Hope things get better for you!

Thanks Glenda, I don't know if I can completely retire in ten years. Might have to stay in a clinic position there or go somewhere else and do something totally different than nursing.

Anyone doing anything this week?

Friend and I talked about going to Little Rock tomorrow, do a little shopping (I need to find something to wear to a baby shower on Sunday), eat lunch with our kids and come home. Then I remembered that my DGDs both have dental appointments tomorrow and Twinkie still isn't doing too well. He got an epidural in his back last week for the pain and so far it hasn't helped.
So, gonna stay home and look for something here in town to wear.

I understand about the changing of jobs, Kath. After a certain point it doesn't make sense to change jobs and basically have to start all over with seniority, etc. Esp. when you've got kids to feed and educate, etc.

I have off this week, too. I absolutely love my job as a preschool teacher, but every day I love coming home and I love my vacations! Has nothing to do with the job.
