Follow up on our son's accident

He's home, with his middle finger and index finger bandaged up, 7 stitches, said the trimmers went to the bone on one finger.ouch! He had an xray, got some prescriptions, he's feeling pretty good. Can't keep a good man down. Thanks for all your good wishes!

sah54, thank you for taking the time to list and tally all of your expenditures. There are loads of times when people who come here looking for help wish to know the cost of landscape items. Just the "ball park" is often all they need. Too, some people have an idea that things for the yard should somehow cost next to nothing, and they are surprised to find that it's not the case. The information is helpful for letting people in on some of the costs they could expect. There is not a good SCIENTIFIC way to answer your question about whether using a designer would give you a better plan for the same money. I think it depends on the designer. Some people choose the wrong designer so are not as happy as you are after they have the work done. Admittedly, since I have a dog in the fight I am prejudiced, but I believe that IF a person chooses the right designer, they will achieve more for a given expenditure. Often, a homeowner does not know how to avoid wasting money, whereas a designer knows many ways. And they know many ways to enhance property. Hopefully, they have good taste as that would be key in how helpful they can be. But using a designer can be a double-edged sword as sometimes they find ways to design too much spending into the plan. You've done a good job and made yourself happy so I'm sure will have no regrets.

Hello, I may be one of the ones who suggested African Violet mix & a third perlite, it works well if you don't have bark around which is the case for me. That need not be complicated (to me), consider something like 3 cups of AV mix to 1 cup perlite. The point here is achieved by either this mix I'm suggesting or the bark mix Josh is suggesting is fast draining, that's the key to these. Personally, I'd be more concerned about a fast draining mix than fertilizing the plants. In new or recent mix, depending on what you're usung, they may not need much fertilizer. Fast draining & loose mixes are what matters, & not drying out & compacting (like peat or mixes that contain it, which you'll notice neither of our suggestions mentions). That allows the plants to maximize basic water & fresh air to full advantage.

it is not all because of windows 7 it is because you asked and researched how to do it with out going in blind and that is why you were successful! I have done the exact same thing using xp, 7 and various flavors of linux, learning how to do it is what makes it a success no matter what system.

It was always interesting when reviewing charts in the ER to see how many patients waited several days to be seen after what they considered a "minor accident" and then to sadly learn that vital organs had been bruised and torn without a lot of noticeable pain at first. When I asked the trauma nurse manager about this she explained it quite simply, "well you need to realize that even though the outside of your body stops moving on most impacts, the internal organs do not" in fact, most nurses make it a point to stop in the ladies room before leaving the hospital....regardless of the need to void...why? For exactly this reason....having a full bladder and a car accident don't mix...bladders rupture quite easily when slung around inside of you..... Sorry to be so graphic...but that is what made me the "5 o'clock Pottie Queen" thought you'd wanna know!

Thanks for the update. Hope he's all healed up and better soon. I know it scared you to death. Doesn't make any difference how old they are - they're still our "kids", aren't they?

I completely missed the other post (had to go find it). I'm so glad he's OK. As bad as it is, I'm so thankful it's not as could have been!! Sending Heal Quickly thoughts & Prayers his way!

I'm glad he didn't lose a finger. I'm hurting just reading this.

I hope those meds don't give him a problem with his addictive personality since he's been doing so well.

You might want to save a couple of those pills for when the bill comes.
