The problem with almost any repair is that it takes some time to disassemble and reassemble and often what should be an easy belt change requires more time than anyone would wish. I suspect thaqt the Eureka was a Boss or perhaps something older(burning rubber suggests older). They are perfectly good machines. Vacuums do pretty much the same thing, and you wern't bothered before, so any one should do. I therefore suggest that you find a light one for convenience. Personally, I am as cheap as they come, and I would have attempted to dislodge the tangle or clog or perhaps at the repair point it was simply a broken belt. Unfortunately, the repair seems to be almost reasonable or perhaps a better way to look at it is to assume that the machine was a disposable item. I was perfectly happy with our Eureka Boss although the utility hose was deteriorating. The wife bought a refurbished Dyson (I would have been really upset if she had gotten a new one). It would have been absurdly more expensive for only minimal improvement (if any). It is just as heavy and less manuverable. It does have a nice vacuum driven small stair/upulstry brush. It also is bagless. I think that is a pain.

My elderly mother lightly mists the carpet with water or water/vinegar or even canned lysol spray (the type you spray in air) to prevent dust from getting airbound while she vacuums. TEST IT FIRST: I would try the light mist of water on carpet - first on a small area before you vacuum to see if that works for you. Works well for her - but everyone has a different degree of allergies. WHAT WORKS FOR ME: I PERSONALLY, REMOVED AND REPLACED MY CARPET IN MY ROOM WITH CERMAIC TILE, THAT WAY I CAN MANAGE THE LEVEL OF DUST IN THE ROOM - A QUICK MOP, DUST FURNITURE AND WASH FABRICS AND then MY ROOM IS super CLEAN

In the Mini Cooper, you're down so low, you could wave to the roadkill, couldn't you?? ;) I drive a modern-day version of the family truckster the mini van. If I tried to strike up a conversation with everyone who owns a Dodge Caravan... good grief, I'd get even *less* done than now! :) I guess my 74 Courier was very unique at the time. They were new to the area and I had wanted one for years. My first new vehicle too. It was "camouflaged" and stood out at the same time. Driving down the road, in the country, farmers thought you were just another plowboy in a pickup. In town it was rather unique. Pickups weren't a common vehicle for people to own for everyday use unless there was a hauling need. Also had a 280zx. Different, but not unique, I guess.

I'm wanting a canister...we have hardwood floors (some original to this 1893 house), and rugs on them, and kitty hair is an issue. I also need to be able to get under and around things. So Dyson is noisy? I have been alarmed by the android quality of the machine...but if it can be taught to vacuum while we are out to dinner, I could accept it...and the kitties could hide in their "oh, no, it's a thunderstorm!" places...?? Seriously, though...anything you all can pass on will be appreciated.
