LOL Linda. Yeah Glenda, we get alot of them around here. The deer ticks are tiny, like a sesame seed size. So it was probably a regular tick, not that any are great. They say the tick has to be attatched for more than 24 hours for it to transmit Lymes or anything so that is probably fine. Just get a look at the spot in next couple of days to make sure it's not red and such. The ring thing. I don't even know, do ya'll have Lymes disease down there?

They are most prevalent here in the spring, so their season is about over with here. I'm seeing fewer and fewer of them.

When I was 13 years old (1937) I had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I found a tick on my tummy and I or someone took it off. Don't remember who. Anyhow a few days later I had a killer of a headache, and eventually terrible fever and was very sick. In those days there were no antibiotics or anything like that. Doc said to give me aspirin. Six weeks later I was up and around but had lost most of my hair from the fever.

We have them here and I HATE them. I have found a couple of them stuck to me this year so far. I was thinking of maybe using a bit of my dog's frontline!! LOL We have lots of littel brown ticks with white dots on them. Hateful things they are.

A pair of twizzers as close to the skin as you can get at the head of the tick.

A hot match to the rear of a tick causes him to regurgitate into the bite area. Not good.

Yes, probably lots of them. When we visited relatives in Ark we always had to be checked for ticks. When we visited cousins in Siloam Springs, Ark, we couldn't sit on their front porch because the vines was full of ticks. I could not understand why they didn't clean out the vine. I guess they were so used to them, they didn't care.

Weird thing is that we were headed back to the buses after a day at Disney and Rhiannon started whining about everything. Then she said that something bit her head and that it hurt and wouldn't quit crying. I made her show me where and lo and behold she had a tick attached to her scalp. Made me check Peyton, Dan and My own head and told others on the bus to make sure and check.

Just had one crawling up my shorts today! Something kept tickling my upper thigh, close to the buttocks. I kept swatting at my shorts thinking they were sticking to me (it was hot and I had just come inside). I finally decided to pull up my shorts a bit and saw something crawling on my thigh. It quickly crawled up my hand and I dumped it in a bucket to see it more closely. I think it was a dog tick, too. I've had deer ticks before and they are much smaller and red. Here in NC, we get them a lot. We find them on the children at school many times. The playground is surrounded by tall pine trees and I think they just drop to the ground and crawl up their legs or fall on them. They will always travel upwards on your body. This is freaky: About 6 yrs. ago, we went to do some grave rubbings on a friends property that had some pre-civil war tombstones. It was heavily wooded. I never thought of ticks. When we walked out, my DD says "Look at all these little bugs on my legs." We looked and she was covered in deer ticks. By the time we got back to their cabin, we were all covered. I had about 20 around my stomach and navel and they had already attached. My DD and her 2 friends had many but none had attached. My husband.... here it comes.... had 80 ticks from his buttocks all the way to his ankles! I counted and removed 80 from him! All teeny tiny. He had one that became infected. I think I left the head attached and it became a cyst. He had to take antibiotics. Never did get Lyme. That in itself is amazing. After we showered, the bathroom floored was littered with ticks that had come off all our clothes. I was totally grossed out. I don't like the idea of an insect attaching itself to me and feeding. That makes my hair stand on end.

If you grow up in the country you are bound to know what ticks are...I've had a ga-zillion on me when I was a kid...back in those days no one thought anything about having a tick on you but now people get all bent out of shape about them. You might have a little itchy spot for a day or too. I have found often that you find them on how tree branches and they get on you if you disturb a limb...Best thing in the world for ticks is a flock of guineas...they'll clean out the ticks in no time flat...your neighbors in the condo's would love you and they could roost on your balcony...

Ruthie, something is roosting on my front porch! Droppings! :o( Hope it's not those pesty geese :o) Not many droppings, but noticeable occasionally. Not a nightly thing.

I once removed one from my daughter's face,it was near her eye. Luckily she had no ill effects,didn't get Lyme, and has no scar. Yucky-I hate bugs. This morning I picked some roses from my bsckyard and found two earwigs on them. They went down the drain-I sprayed my flowers at the kitchen sink.

Here is something I just learned recently about tick removal. After you make sure you get ALL of the tick, put it in a vial or some way to preserve it. I still suggest getting antibiotics from your Dr. IF, there is a follow-up problem, they can examine the tick to determine if it carried Lyme Disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever etc.
It probably won't, but it really helps the Doc's give an accurate diagnosis & how to proceed with treatment.

I have found them too. I am thinking isn't it about time they come up with a vaccine for this life threatening health problem. It is getting worse each summer.

I didn't get a chance to read every response, but my recommendation would be to let your doctor know you were bitten by a tick. You might want to go ahead and get some antibiotics, just in case Lyme or anything else was transmitted. Antibiotics taken this early could help prevent of Lyme, etc.

I admit it. I am creeped out by this post. I never think to look for ticks, even after hiking.
