If you could learn something new for a day.....

what would you do?

I thought it would be fun to be a dolphin trainer. I found a place in Cabo that does dolphin training for a day. Wouldn't that be a blast to learn about dolphins and get to swim with them too? There are so many things I'd love to do but that would be in the top 10.

Learned something new about my GE Adora today

Our GE Adora washing machine has been a constant source of trouble for several years now. It cannot be "balanced" no matter what we do and now the front of the cabinet has "rips" in the metal from shaking so violently. The door leaks, the front control panel shorts out and the exterior cabinet is rusting through in the front lower corners. This washer has many "known issues" and GE refuses to acknowledge them. Since we're out of warranty, I'm not going to try anything else to keep this hunk of junk running. We use only HE detergent and when we add bleach to the dispenser, it simply runs out immediately on the clothes... Clothes are now being torn but we can't find anything obviously damaged in the tub, so we don't know what's tearing the clothes. We leave the door open when the washer is empty so we don't get the moldy smell that so many others have experienced. This is by far the worst appliance we have ever purchased and we'll never buy a GE product again...

I learned something new today from the vets office

Our cat, Heather, has small-cell lymphoma requiring pilling of prednisolone twice a day and a chemo pill four days out of 21. The first pred was purchased from the vet, 60 pills for $20.70 plus tax. I decided to check PetMeds and the cost for 100 pills, including shipping, was $26.00. I placed my order on a Friday and on the following Monday got an email from PetMeds saying they hadn't received the script from the vet yet. Called the vet and they told me they hadn't received a request from PetMeds. So called PetMeds and they said they would re-send the FAX. The next day, Tuesday, I called the vet and finally they said it had been FAXed back to PetMeds. But, by then, I needed some pred to tide me over until the PetMeds pills arrived and asked for 12. Went to pick them up on Wed. and the cost was $20,70 (plus tax). I asked how many - was told 30. I then asked for just 12 and was told the price was the same. So, then I said, give me 60 as I paid that for 60 last time. Then I was told that they could only dispense 30 as the vet was on vacation (there are 8 vets total in the clinic) and no other vet could prescribe. So, I called PetMeds and they overnighted the 100 pills to me and I told the vet's office to forget it. I can only figure out that they have just one price for the pills, up to 60. Anyway, I'm a big fan of PetMeds now. And the chemo pill has to be bought at a pharmacy. RiteAid wanted $33 for 4 pills. Costco's price was 1/2 the cost. So, check around. We found, with a cat who had CRF (now deceased) that lactated ringers were $24 for 12 at Costco and the vet charged $14 for one.

Oh, that's hilarious! I may try that, just to see if I can do it... Mom used to hand roll hers, and roll it as they did, then thin slice with a knife. As a child it was my job to carefully unroll the tiny pieces without breaking them. I've never had 00 flour. Some day. Nice cool, overcast here. Planned to work outside, but no time and tomorrow it rains. Hummingbirds at the feeders, bluebirds have found our little house for them, mourning doves cooing. Lovely day, nice evening to grill, which I will. Staying safe here and isolating while the rest of our town prepares to open (eye roll). Hair stylist texted, he's open. I texted no thank you. We did have pasta last night (in keeping with the thread).

Hmmm, do you mean take in money for your bank account or do you mean make money at the U.S. Mint or Bureau of Engraving and Printing? That would be interesting.

Toni that would be a blast, training dolphins. I've swam with them and it was one of the most spiritual experiences of my life. Awesome creatures.
I think that I would like to learn how to work with clay or maybe stained glass. I've always wanted to play piano too but chopsticks is about as far as I've gotten LOL. So many wonderful things to do and learn out there.

I would love to take an all-day or week-end retreat to learn how to do a few things:

spin wool
quilt
cheese making

Another thing I would love to do (and maybe in the future, who knows?) is build a wood fired oven in my back yard and learn to cook in it. Bread, pizza, stews, it would be awesome.

I agree with you Toni, I'd enjoy working with dolphins. I'd love to live on an island and be able to go swim with them whenever I wanted. No sharks would be allowed in the water near me though, I've seen Jaws too often.

I would love to learn and go gliding in a plane. It is on my bucket list of things to do.

Sailing. I love the sea and although I've been "tourist" sailing on large sailboats I would love to learn to sail a small sloop.

Joann, hate to disappoint... I have a stunning kitchen with beautiful appliances but haven't a clue how to cook. I have no basic cooking skills and really very little desire to cook. My mother hated cooking and was terrible at it so that I was never taught anything. The only thing I did in the kitchen as a child was wash dishes, make coffee in a percolator and try to find my mother's meatloaf recipe so I could toss it away! :-)

I figure if I spent a day learning the basics with the right person, a love for the art of cooking might rub off on me.

I would love to learn how to knit, and do tatting like my grandmother use to do..I cannot seem to get the knack for either. :(
