Never heard of them--are they another fast food place?

Steak and Shake is fast food from my childhood in the Midwest. I loved their lemonade, skinny french fries and hamburgers. DH loved their greasy chili.

I don't have either one in my area. I've been to a Steak 'n Shake on a trip several years ago. I liked what I had.

Johnny Rockets, here, is lot younger than Steak "n Shake, but both are known for their burgers and shakes.

They try, or at least I am told, to replicate the diner experience witih stools for sitting at the counter, or booths.

Plus they have the mini juke boxes at the tables.

And used to at Johnny Rockets, the staff would come around singing with empty coke bottles as microphones. They don't do that anymore at the one close to me.

Fun thing for the kids is when they bring the french fries, they also bring a small plate and draw a smiley face on the plate with ketchup.

Maybe I just had a bad chef, but a burger at Johnny Rockets was dripping with mayo and was just a mess.

I've been to Steak n' Shake in another state (I haven't seen one near where I live), have had the ice cream/brownie dish and chicken tenders (not at the same time, tho!). The ice cream was delish-- tho, of course, sugar overload -- the chicken was not so great. But between the 2 places, it'd be Steak n' Shake for me, if nothing else was available.

Glenda: Is their tuna salad made with solid white tuna, or some more pinkish tuna? What do they add into the mix?

We only have Steak "n Shake around here and I like what I have eaten there. They serve breakfast also. I like their "frank steaks" and they have a big variety of them. I also like the Wisconsin Buttery Burger. During "happy hour" iced tea is only $.50 and it is a very big drink.

We have both here and love them both. Great fun and if you want a burger (once every three years or so for me!), either place is fantastic for it. Shakes are awesome, fries are fantastc! If you like shoestring fries, then opt for Steak and Shake. If you liked fun 50s, 60s, and 70s music, opt for Johnny Rockets. Good times, good times.

Do any of those have a real authentic malted? Not a milk shake, but a malted?

Never heard of Johnny Rockets!

We have Johnny Rockets here-I've only eaten there once or twice, and it was just okay, mainly birgers and fries. If I knew the waiters would sing I'd take my kids there. My 8 year old would get a kick out of it!

Never been to a Steak N Shake but I hear people talk about them and seem to like it.

I just noticed there's a Johnny Rockets on Royal Caribbean Indepence of the Seas. Going on that ship first part of next year. Of course it says they charge.

Steak and Shake is all over in Fl. We get malts there during happy hour (half-priced). We always say we want a malt, NOT a shake. We got a malt at a DQ in Daytona Beach once, they had to chip and pound the malt powder out of the container. Guess malts are not as popular as shakes in Fl!
