I don't personally use one but my husband had one for model building. It broke. Also replacement bulbs I guess are expensive. He replaced his with a goose neck style table top one flourescent bulb for about $20 and is happy with it.

Yes, I have one, it is a floor model with a large light. I do like it and have never replaced the tube. I also have a couple of similar but not the same tube bulb that I bought at Big Lots. I think with a coupon they cost me around $15 a couple of years ago. I have had my Ott lamp for probably 3 or 4 years. I really like the ones I bought at Big Lots. I think you can buy replacement bulbs for some of the Ott lamps at Lowe's.

I've had one for several years, but seldom use it. My husband uses it in his workshop and likes it. We've never had to replace the bulb. I think we bought it at Michaels about seven or eight years ago. Bettye/AZ

Yes, I have one. It's a floor lamp. Got it free with bonus points off my credit card from Sharper Image. I really like it. I use it as a decorating item more than aything else. We read by it or type on the computer(DH has to see the keys to type). Had it for ......hhhhhmmmmm....10 years maybe...never replaced the bulb. The desk model....

I actually have 3 - one is a floor lamp, one is a table top and one is a really small table top one that I take with me sometimes for scrapbooking crops when the lighting is bad. They show true colours which is perfect for when you are trying to match art work well. I love mine and have never had to replace any bulbs.

I have the floor lamp with the adjustable head and use it whenever I use my sewing machine. It provides a lot more light then the small bulb on my machine and I can bring it down very close for those occasions when I have to rip out a seam or hem and I'm trying to find black thread on black pants. I've never replaced the bulb.

My husband uses it when he's tying flies. (You don't know how hard it is to find their little legs!! LOL)

I have more than one. For years I took my original one in and out of our motor home (it is still my favorite); since then I have purchased others. Some Big Lot ones work well, others not so well as to replacing bulbs. Original one has original bulb for many years.

My mother is actually quite blind. I mean legally blind after cataract surgeries. She uses an OTT light for reading newspapers. She told me it cost about $100 and replacement bulbs are 435. I think that's way high!

I forgot to mention I use mine mostly for sewing and some reading. My husband use one of the Big Lot floor lamps like mine to look at his coins.

I have 2 and love them. I buy the replacement bulbs when Hobby Lobby has a 40% off coupon online, I have only replaced one bulb in over 5 years but I keep extras for each on hand, just in case.

I have the floor model and the table-top fold-up one, they're both wonderful. Use a Joann's or Michael's or H.L coupon when you buy one, if you can. You'll save a lot!

I have a small one that clamps onto my stitching table. I love it! Been using it for close to 7 years now and still on the same bulb. It gets used almost daily too. You can also check into simple "Daylight" lamps as they are cheaper and just as good from what I hear. Our Big Lots carry them all the time and they are nice!

I still don't know what an OTT light is. Is OTT an acronym for something, or is the light really called an ott light?

I believe an Ott light is a brand name. They put out very good lighting for reading or sewing and such. I bought mine at Joann's with a coupon some years back.

I've wanted one for a long time so I can do my stitching but they are way too expensive in the stores here. I like this time of year because I can sit outside in the late afternoon and get good light to stitch.

I think you should get yourself an OTT Lamp.

I have 2 of them, one a table lamp, the other is a floor lamp. I really don't care for them at all. I ended up buying a halogen lamp at Ikea. Yes, it does get warm (OK, even hot, at times) but I can place it right near my sewing machine and angle it to shine where I need it to and the light is so much brighter than those OTT lights.

I have a floor lamp, its another brand from QVC. I have it by my recliner and use it every night. If I am not sewing or doing embroidery, I am reading. I wouldn't do without it. Mine has 2 beams on it, high and low. I also have an OTT table lamp by my sewing machine.

I wish I liked them. They give me a headache. I have very light sensitive eyes.

I have a "reading light", that has florescent bulbs in it. Ugly light. But it lives in the corner by my pappasan chair, and I turn it on, when I sit there to read. Makes a great reading light.

Mine has those weird adjusting arms. It's base got broke during the last move, well, actually not the base, but the base covering. That's what makes it an ugly light. So having it sitting behind my pappasan chair hides that fact.

This looks a lot like the ones I bought from Big Lot's. Mine came with an extra bulb, still using the first bulbs that came with them. Check out Lowe's and see if you can get a bulb there.

Tami, you mentioning getting headaches, reminds me of a news program they did recently on the CFL lights. (Compact flourescent lights).

Many people were getting headaches, and they actually caused some people's skins to burn if they sat to close to them for reading.

Next year, we won't be able to buy incandescsent bulbs in Canada.....CFL's are going to be mandatory. I'm not happy. I don't like the light, and they don't last 7 years as purported. I've already thrown 2 in my bathroom fixture out.

And they are classified as hazardous waste so we aren't supposed to just dump them in the trash.

Sorry for going off-topic. Oh, I've never heard of OTT lights. Now I can redeem myself for getting back on-topic. :-)

Mine DOES work! The bulb wasn't pressed/snapped in place!! Mine is a Bell & Howell and for the $5.00 I paid for it, I'm pretty happy!

I have one because I knit at night and if it's a dark yarn it's hard to see what I'm doing. Mine is a table top model that flips open. They aren't cheap, but I got it at Michaels with a 40% coupon. I have thought I would probably be just as happy with a little cheap gooseneck lamp from Home Depot. I have to keep the OTT aimed down and close to my work to be helpful. Otherwise it's too bright and in my eyes.

Why don't you try a little inexpensive lamp first to see if you like it. That way you will have more money for yarn!
