How exciting! Mine should be installed in a week or two and I can't wait!

I haven't seen them.. The only thing I have seen is the color cabs. I picked out.. We are building and the cabinets are custom (sort of I guess), b/c there are kitchen layouts and basically you pick one and say go.. I have to say I was a bit naive about the whole process and in retrospect wish I had found this forum much earlier in the process, but I am hopeful that it is going to be great no matter what.. YIKES!!! This is a HUGE week for our house b/c along with the cabinets being installed the tile flooring, deck, and granite are going in... Again, hoping when the ideas in my head are put in front of me, they are what I was envisioning.. FINGERS CROSSED!!!!

What an exciting day ahead of you! I know the feeling of not knowing how it's all going to look in the end and just hoping it's as good as what you envision. My kitchen turned out to be better than I expected - I'm sure yours will too!

I LOVE THEM!!! I don't have pictures yet b/c we got there probably about 1/2 hour after the installers did, but I really love the color. My husband is going to go back to the house before it gets dark and take pictures.. PFEW!!!! The island is not going in until tomorrow. My only fear is that there is not going to be enough wiggle room between the island and sink/dishwasher on one side and wall oven on the other.. but.. we will make do!!!

I can't believe how big the upper cabs are. The cab. maker tried to convince me to stagger them so they weren't all 9' high but I didn't think I would like that look.. Starting to think maybe I should have but I still like them.. THink i just have to get used to them!!! The molding was not put on yet either.

What do you think? and what size pulls do you think would look ok with the upper cabs so they don't get "lost"????

Oh how exciting for you! The color is lovely. Makes me so antsy to see our cabinets go in. Ours are also custom and should be ready in another week or two. Like you I'm worried about it all coming together like I've envisioned for so long. This house building stuff is nerve wracking at times. Looks like yours is going to be very nice.:-)

They're lovely!!! And the uppers will look more balanced when everything else is in. Middle of project views always look wacky on the proportions. Because you have single doors, a 3.5" pull might be too small, but you don't have to go giant ('course, you can if you want to!). You'll know it when you see it.

I am still feeling a bit naive about all of this.. Would a 5 3/8" pull be too small? or should I go up to the next size which I believe is 9 +". for the upper cabs and smaller drawers. For the 30" drawers under my range top and wall oven I was thinking a 13" pull would work. This is the family of pulls I am looking at:

Ok.. scratch that last post. I ended up ordering 6" pulls for almost everything and 13" for the larger drawers.. I am hoping I made the right choice but regardless found an amazingly lower-priced website for hardware (website below).

They ended up being cheaper than Home Depot by 1/2 and our cabinet maker, who I love but totally overcharges, was almost triple the cost of the exact same pull!!!!

Thank you!! OUr ceilings are 9' so our uppers go up to the ceiling. My DH insisted they go to the celing (why I am not sure), I am only 5' so it will be very interesting what goes in them.. I am really nervous about todays work as the island is going in and my DH said it seemed tight already with what is in the room... Will post more pics later today!

I am a little bummed the space between the island and adjacent cabs is so small, but it is what it is!!! YOu can't really tell from this picture, but the island is painted black!

We have 8' ceilings and we have our cabinets going almost to the ceiling (we left 6" above the cabinets for crown molding. The cabinets go extra low too, we only have 14" from the counter to the upper cabs instead of the usual 18". I love having the extra long uppers. They have 4 shelves and can hold so much. I'm sure you'll love them.

From the photo it looks like the island fits perfectly. It looks like you have plenty of room between cabinets and island. What is the actual clearance?

Thanks for your reassurance Judy- The clearance from the window side to the island is about 36 and the same from the wall oven/desk side. The clearance from the range to the island is about 48. We are debating whether or not to add 12" to the granite to make seating (for 2 small stools) b/c the table is quite a bit away from the cabs. but I'm not sure it is worth it...

But I do LOVE it!!!! I am pleasantly surprised b/c i am typically a plain jane kind of girl so going with a different color island base and top is HUGE for me....

Absolutely!! They have a BBB link-i'm sure anyone can do that, but it put me at ease a little bit. The pulls we ordered were half the price of Home Depot which i already thought was inexpensive, but i googled the exact sku from HD and this company came up! I will most definitely keep you posted!

Thank you for your kind words about the island. I just posted about friends of ours who thought it was a mistake that the island was a different color and couldn't believe we "chose" it.

Gilly, they're beautiful!! Speaking as one who has white perimeter cabs and a charcoal island, I wholeheartedly approve your choice! I was reading your other post about your friends, and had to come over here to have a look-see at the "offending" island!! It's beautiful, and I love the tall uppers and the glass corner cab. I can't wait for pics of the finished kitchen.

As for your friends, I suspect it was just a case of the mouth moving before the brain was engaged. Remember, not everyone is as up-to-date on kitchens as we GWebbers are!!Don't give another thought to her/his comment.

Ok. . . I'm a lurker and just in the process of laying my kitchen out. When my contractor taped everything out for me it felt a little narrow from my kitchen sink to the island. Anyone have the same feeling or am I bonkers. Gillylilly, your cabs are beautiful. Do you feel the 36 in. is adequate space in your island walkways? I'm scared mine are going to be too narrow. I hope everyone out there will help me when I'm posting things and asking questions. I just don't want to make a huge mistake in the kitchen that I will most likely NEVER be redoing again. I too love the darker island and once everything is in - it will look even better! Kellykath

It is a little narrow, but I didn't really feel it from the sink to the island as opposed to the wall oven to the island. My sink is not in yet so I can't give you a for sure feeling. But I do wish I had a little more space from the wall oven to the island as that is most likely the path that others will be taking in my kitchen. I will know for sure next week when my granite goes in, but in speaking with a KD today she said, although many people feel they need a lot of space, she often designs kitchens that are only 30-36" distance. She said she is in the minority with this. I know there are a lot experts on here that prefer more space, but I am hoping it won't bother me!!! Is there any way to create any wiggle room in your kitchen? You may want to post this question so the professional kd;s respond or do a search on the forum... chances are though you will be fine with 36" I think that is what people prefer as the minimum.

gilly, you mentioned your cabinet maker was from Walpole...care to share the name?

Did you check out semi-custom cabs and how did his pricing compare?

I'm in RI and a while away from any kitchen renovation but the info would be handy!

We are building the house so basically we did not check into any other cabinet makers/ semi custom cabs. Our builder gave us his name and said call him.

The builder used to use box cabinets and started using Mike (I can at least give you that) over the past couple of years. He (the builder) was even impressed today when he saw our cabinets. HE does really quality work, every detail is great!

As far as price what I can tell you is that we were given a $20,000 allowance for cabinets including 2 vanities. We added an island a wall oven (cabinetry to go with it) and a desk with cabinets and shelving above it and we ended up paying an additional $6800. We did price out his work for some built-ins which were pretty pricey, so we held off until the money tree starts growing again (not sure if that will happen any time soon), but we will have him do the built ins seeing what he has done in our kitchen and vanities!!
