Code varies state to state, and often even town by town. In my town, you can't put a plug in if the overhang is greater than 6". But your town's code might be different. Just ask the electrician. The solution my builder came up with is to have a little box for the outlet built out from the side of the island so that the outlet faces the working side of the island where there is only a 1" overhang. It will probably look a little odd, but I'm pretty sure it will not be that noticeable--and even then only from the working side of the island. I'm checking with the electrician to see if we can use plug mold there, which will make it almost invisible.

What's the aisle width b/w the island and the doorway that leads to the LR/DR area? If there's enough space, perhaps you could increase the width of the oven cabinet and put an outlet on each side. Use trim to fit the oven in the wider cabinet. I'm not sure how much room you need. I do know that the outlets in the ends of our peninsulas fit b/w the side of the drawers & the side walls of the cabinets without affecting the drawer itself...i.e, no reducing the drawer, etc. However, there may be some electrical/code reasons not to do this, so maybe an expert electrician will chime in as well! Do you have a picture of the cabinets in the island you could post? It may give us more ideas if we actually see what you're describing, especially for "visual" people.

A few things wrong here other than the island placement. I would never have the sink and cooktop opposite each other . 54” is in no way large enough for a walkway behind stools that are in use. I agree that the overhang looks much larger than 12” steel supports are needed for sure even for 12 “ BTW architects are iften the worst KD s . A pantry outside the kitchen never makes sense.

Your kitchen designer usually designs in the locations during the electrical and lighting design phase, in conjunction with the cabinet plan. Because the bulk of the oulets has to be accounted for in the space planning of the cabinets. I used a 9” tray base, with the top section a blank drawer, to hold an outlet on this waterfall island.
