Comments (1)I'd contact Seed Savers and tell them what happened first. Then tell them you're trying to get them to grow but would they consider replacing them if they die. They might not if you were given a chance to insure the shipment, but it really depends on the company and their supply. Yes, I'd see if I couldn't get them to perk up with some water and rest for a few days. Then harden them off before planting them. Look in the FAQs for for how to do it if you aren't certain. You could rescue them now and then lose them if you don't harden them off! Good luck!...See MoreAny suggestions for my kitchen layout?
Comments (6)Great layout! I only have a few comments: * Undercounter MW: Is this a MW Drawer or a MW on a shelf? I ask b/c I think an undercounter MW on a shelf will be more difficult to access or see into from the front than a MW drawer from the top. This is especially true if anyone in your family is tall (or will be!) * You might want to consider a couple more 3-drawer drawer bases. Deep ones are great, but sometimes the shallower ones are better for things like --- cooking utensils --- silver/flatware --- kitchen linens & table linens --- pot holders --- wraps, foils, plastics, bags --- prep utensils & tools --- junk (yes...don't forget to allocate a junk drawer since most people end up w/one whether they plan to or not...if you plan for it you can at least control it's location!) Even Tupperware, measuring cups, etc. often fit better in "medium" depth drawers than deep ones. With deep drawers you have to stack/nest more and things aren't quite as easy to see/get to as in the shallower drawers. * Where is your tray storage? While it's not ideally located, I would recommend the 12" cabinet on the far end of the island. Yes, 12" drawers can be somewhat useful, especially when you have no choice, but I wonder if it might be better used as tray storage. I think the 24" cabinets under the island overhang would be too difficult to access trays, cutting boards, pans, etc on a regular basis. (I assume those cabinets are for little-used items.) Comments (4)In my experience. You will want to know what you want before getting started. So yes, really you could install your range and have the specs for your sink faucet available. As for the backsplash, 2cm I think it more common for granite/marble, but mine is 3 so that it matches up with the large veins on the marble. I don't think it looks weird at all. You will want to be sure what you want because if you do tile they wont have nearly as much "fudge" room in the back that can be covered up....See MoreQuestion about timing of cabinet order
Comments (12)Here's a vote for "it depends". I have a very small, very old house that is full of surprises. My cabinets are truly custom, as in made by a local cabinet maker. Otherwise, the number of 1-inch fillers would outnumber the inches of cabinets! I could not imagine having the cabinet maker in to measure until the demo was done, the surprises were rectified and everything was in place. And there were a few small surprises and changes. So for me it was really worth it to wait. I would hate to have a cabinet order sitting there and have some of them not fit, then have to figure out what to do. But then I'm not sitting here with six dusty, crying kids and a husband threatening divorce if I feed him pizza again. And my contractor has several other things he can do around my house, so I won't lose him while he waits. And some cabinet lines will get your cabinets there in 2-4 weeks. So weight up how desperate you are to get this finished, how long the lag time is, how many surprises you anticipate, your family's tolerance, your contractor's patience to stay focused on your project etc. and then decide....See Morerhome410
