How to turn off energy saving feature on KitchenAid Range
Comments (18)@Jerry2461 I'm officially nominating you for the Nobel Peace Prize, you might have saved our marriage and my sanity. :) A dozen whirlpool and kitchen aid manuals, and countless times playing with the option button and no luck. This find was a god send! <3...See Moreturn on house AC for laying oak floor????
Comments (2)I'm surprised none of the wood guys on this forum haven't answered your question. I'll take a stab at explaining this to you but you really need to check with your installer and read the installations instructions/warranty carefully before you do anything. Your installer (or builder if it's a new build) should be overseeing this process and telling you the correct thing to do in this instance. (Did he tell you to rack the wood in the rooms where it will be installed and has he checked it periodically with a moisture meter?) And usually there are specific instructions in the boxes as to what to do pre-installation and if those directions are not followed to the letter, then you void the warranty. If you are laying unfinished wood, then you should definitely check with your installer. Every wood species (oak, cherry, walnut, exotics) has different properties and even the cut (flat sawn, quartersawn, etc) can affect how it expands and contracts. Is this solid or engineered wood? Floating or nail down? Are you laying it on concrete or over a crawl space or basement? All of these things make a difference in the prep and installation. Wood absorbs moisture from the air. If you turn on the AC now and install the wood flooring, then turn the AC off and open the windows to let in the humid air from outside your floors will expand and possibly cup/crack unless the installer leaves plenty of expansion room in the seams. Bottom line, what I've heard is that when you put in wood floors you need to plan on running your AC all the time during humid weather and keep it on until the humidity outside drops.(during Fall) Thats why when you walk into old homes with the wide wood floors you will see gaps between the planks during the winter but during the summer the same floors will be tight and gap-free. Better to do your homework on this BEFORE you lay it or you may end up very unhappy and with an expensive mistake/tear-out. Good luck!...See MoreOut of my hands... Frustrated. (Long)
Comments (47)Doodle, I get that it is hard for two parents together as well. BTDT too lol. It's not easy for anyone or any situation. Sometimes hearing the other side (well when neither side is a whack job, but rather normal human beings with flaws) helps. I've been there with DD and family only wanting to see her when I call for babysitting. This wasn't her father, but it is the same principle. If you don't call to see her on your own, then why would I continue to do it. I already feel guilt having to ask for babysitting all the time, if you're not calling on your own, then that signifies you don't want time and only doing a favor for me. That's how I see it. I can't imagine anyone DD's father telling me or expressing that he wishes I called him to see if he wants more time. I can't. That just seems so backwards. Ceph doesnt have to see it different ways and can blame whoever she wants and vent away, we all need to sometimes. But it doesn't solve anything or take away her feeling of a trainwreck about to happen. Oh and my father, god love him, is a father to kids not his. We don't have a great relationship, but I will give him that, when he gets involved with women he takes in their kids like his own. My uncle was a stepfather to two kids in his first marriage and he put them through college, bought their first cars and taught how to drive, walked one down the aisle, been there for birth of her kids etc she still calls him dad. And I actually, I know quite a few men who have done that too. I thought that was more in the realm of normal than not? Especially with the new face of blended families....See Moregeneral Kitchen Cabinet buying frustration
Comments (56)I think wedding planning was easier! We started off first thinking we were going to have the cabinets in our "new to us" house repainted, since the off-white paint was peeling off. The granite countertops were in great shape, and it was obvious the previous owners spent a lot of money on these counters. We received an estimate for $4500 for repainting. Then, I figured it would be better to reface, and get a whole new look. I received estimates ranging from $12k- $20k (with one place being very high pressure, "will drop the price if you order today" type of attitude). One place I called, also did remodeling, and I called them in asking for prices for remodeling, not refacing, yet told me remodeling would be "much more expensive" than his quote for refacing. How much more? He would not elaborate. At this point, with particle board cabinets that really were not in the greatest shape and could stand for a lot of improvement, I figured I had to try to get an answer from SOMEBODY about a remodeling price. We were not even trying to change much - just pretty much keep the same layout in terms of appliance placement, but make a few modifcations to get it to where I thought it would be more functional. I finally got one place, when he saw in person that our kitchen wasn't as big as he thought based on the pictures I showed him, to give us a quote for remodeling. Came in around $32,000. Ok, finally! I tried a few other people, both of whom wanted a budget. I explained how we went from spending $4500, to $15000, to now maybe $30-40k? But that honestly we wanted to spend as little as possible to get the look and features we wanted. My DH was not thrilled at the thought of spending $45 (as one quote came in) and the idea of redoing the kitchen fizzled. But I knew there had to be a way.. I called a custom cabinet maker that had done a few kitchens in our neighborhood, and I went to their homes to see his work. Beautiful! I was shocked to find out he came in the lowest out of them all (around $20k for just the cabinets - since at the time we were thinking we would save the granite, and he was able to do that.) We are still toying around with what to do - we have another quote from a friend who has told us that the markup on cabinets and granite is just ridiculous. Some of the quotes I received were more detailed than others. I have been trying to get more specific on other quotes so that it would be easier to compare them - I am so afraid of choosing one, thinking it comes with everything I want, then finding out it will be extra $ here and there after we've signed on....See MoreLottieS
