Ikea kitchen
Comments (21)Our IKEA cabs, counters (upper end Corian) and installation of both come to $10k. For cabs alone, not upgraded inside like the IKEAs come, the prices started at $17k and went to $35k. I wanted a white slab front door (not a painted style) and I got it with IKEA just as I would have with the others. IKEA saved me $13,500 on cabs plus who know how much on installation and separately bought counters. We budgeted to pay way more and are glad we don't have to because of all the unexpected expenses that have come up less than halfway through the reno/extension! It is a little more challenging to work with their range of sizes, but I got what I wanted and am using 1 - 1" filler, so managed to get a lot of use out of every part of my kitchen. Their kitchen planner is in 3D and was invaluable. It does have some glitches/quirks, but once you get the hang of it, will bring your layout to life and help you tweak more than you thought possible. Sometimes too much choice can make it harder to work with as you need to draw a line somewhere......See MoreHead's Up...New Sarah's Hse Series starts today 09/01
Comments (24)Her hair made me wonder if this series was actually older. It is new to me and I do enjoy watching her process and hearing her logic. I rarely agree with her reasoning when she justifies how much she spent, and could not live in most of her rooms, but her shows are still my number one on HGTV, by a long shot!! I would be very interested to watch what she would do with an average home on a REAL budget, a modest, "real life" budget. I REALLY REALLY want to see how she has lived with REAL children, toys, etc. Her pre-kid "kid friendly" decorating was so far from practical and reality. She doesn't have boys that I know of and her hubby doesn't seem the hunting/fishing/fix it guy type, so I do not think she has a clue the challenge it can be to live with a "garage-mahall" type man....See MoreIKEA Butcher Block countertop news
Comments (27)I can't speak to the quality of the non ikea butcher block, but I can't imagine that they are better quality because my ikea butcher block is unbelievably beautiful. I wish I knew how to post a pic here because I think people would be shocked. I think it was the waterlox that brought out the beauty of them though, I sanded and water loxed at least 6 times, and not only are they gorgeous, but they are bullet proof. They don't scratch, stain, or anything. I'm pretty shocked. They have a gorgeous rich color, they look like a custom job. My aunt has the same ikea counters and didn't water lox and I don't care for them though....See MoreSummer cottage rental - designer Sarah Richardson
Comments (14)Sarah's Cottage Rental is a new cottage that Sarah and her husband purchased to rent out to others. It has a mid-century modern exterior. She is making different kinds of decorative choices because this will be a rental so finishes need to be more durable and lower cost than she might choose for her own cottage. There have been four episodes aired thus far. It's entertaining to watch Sarah interacting with her husband, two daughters and Tommy Smythe on the project. Of the episodes shown to-date, the one thing I really hated was the lack of headboard for the primary bedroom. I sort of wondered if it just wasn't ready when it was time to film the episode because I can't imagine Sarah leaving it out. Other viewers have not liked the dining table base made out of a birch tree from the property. I liked it, though. By the way, those two "sofas" in the living room are pull-out twin beds, so you could make them deeper by pulling them out further for a cozier seating option....See Moredeeageaux
