Piatra Grey w/ creamy white cabinets- backsplash???

Now that we've selected cabinet color and countertops, I thought backsplash would be easy. How wrong I was.

Nothing I find seems to speak to me when combined with the Piatra Grey counters. I really liked the Emser Cape Cod Crackle in green as seen here:

But I don't like how it makes my otherwise grey countertops pull slightly green.

So I turn to you experts, does anyone have suggestions for backsplash tile that has some variations in color (not necessarily crackle) and is not a white subway tile? Ideally, the Emser tile would be perfect if it came in a muted grey or light blue. The blue tile from this line is very dark blue and unpleasant to me. Please help!

Not an expert, but I do have PG and did a lot of tile shopping. Try Sonoma Tile Maker's Stellar line. There are a wide range of colors (they do custom as well) and shapes, from 3x6 subways to a huge number of shapes and textures.

There are some hues with the same grey or brown undertones as the PG in their standard color mix. The best way to check them out is to seek out a local dealer, take your door and PG sample, and bring home a few candidates to try in your light.

Some examples might be smoke in the crackle or prairie sand in the matte.

Have you looked at Chapter Ten Breakwater tile by Jeffrey Court? There's a color that is gray, one that's very very light blue/green and a creamy color (mist, sea and sail are the colors). The texture of the tile looks like crackle plus linen texture. The tile is very fresh and pretty and the colors are subtle.

I don't think that the website does it justice, but maybe a local tile place might have a designer sample board as shown.

RJR- I love your glass mosaics with the white subway tile. May I ask what color/brand they are? They look like they might work as an accent for me. Kitchen additct:I googled to find your kitchen, and I do remember seeing it before-probably when I had googled for pics of crema marfil backsplashes! I do love the look of the crema marfil and had ordered a sample. However, my sample doesn't look like a "perfect" fit for my granite, but it is very close to what I think would look good.I had considered ordering another sample of a different kind. Yours really goes with yours. Is yours the turkish or Spanish crema marfil? I understand that there are different types and grades, and I wonder if that can affect the shading. thanks Boxer pups for the photos. The first one looks similiar to my cabinet color and granite color. I remember seeing this photo before. In looking at it- I don't think the backsplash does anything special for the kitchen-sort of plain vanilla. I think I'd like something to jazz it up, personally-maybe- like a row of glass mosaics?

First for your own planning sake, you need to get your undercounter lights in if you are going to have them and you should try to turn off the flash in your camera, which is flattening how your kitchen looks. Second, I am not a granite person either, but I think it's worth your while to look at the pics of Positano's lovely kitchen. She does have Costa Esmeralda, but the green seems to be a very greyish olive and the pattern is subtle. Even if you don't like the stone, it will give you sense of what a polished surface in a medium tone would look like with cabinets, floors, and lighting conditions not dissimilar to yours. Your cabinets are beautiful, and I think when you get the lighting as you want it, you will find that you have lots of options for counters and backsplash. Best of luck. Glad I found this thread. I'm having my kitchen redone almost exactly like WillTV's, though I'm eschewing the black subway tile and having all-white. Yes, it's safe, but I live in a one-bedroom apartment in NYC and don't plan on being there more than three more years, so I want to appeal to myself and as many other people as possible. don't think i'd do a taupe grout. (besides, it will blend in w/the edges of the tile and just look muddy. you want some delineation) you can see a taupe color upper right. (too dark and too close to the edge of the tile color) I really like the quartz color. if doing white cabs/countertop, I'd go w/the quartz shade. it has just a touch of gray to it and well let the blue color pop) by all means wait until installed, and have the tile guy do a few sample mock ups w/diff grout colors.

You might go with something more in line with the color of the veins on the piatra gray. I went with a different counter selection but considered that one at length. Know exactly what you are going thru with the b/s which is part of the reason we changed directions on the counter choice.

Oddly enough I subsequently picked a white subway for the bath that seemed like it would have worked really well with piatra and our creamy white cabs. It is called Rittenhouse Square in white (color 100) from Dahltile. I would have expected it to be too boring at the time but it looked really good-- relatively inexpensive too.
