White glazed cabs with stained wood window trim

Would it look weird to have white cabinets with an orangey-brown glaze (think chestnut or caramel) in a kitchen with stained wood trim around the windows. Our kitchen is open to the eating area and family room, and there is a lot of wood, in orange-brown tones.

I am having so much trouble visualizing this. I like white cabinets, but I always envision an ebony glaze and dark granite (black or near-black), stainless appliances, stainless or pewter knobs and pulls, and white trim.

I definitely do not think my black/grey vision would work in my house. And it's not that I love this combo - I am fine with stained cabinets and that is what I have been pricing and planning for with this remodel. But we have SO much wood, so I'm wondering if white might be better.

My kitchen is small (11x11.5 and no island) so I am not sure about mixing wood and painted cabs - too busy I think.

Does anyone have pics of white/caramel cabs and wood stained window trim? I looked through some of the finished kitchens, but can't find what I am looking for.

All I have to say is that I adore wood and white together. Love it. My favorite combo. My kitchen reno plan right now is sitting almost 50/50 wood and white (technically cream).

Can you add a wood element into the kitchen (hutch or something) to tie the wood elements into the kitchen together and make it feel planned that way?

Well, If it would look weird then I've just created a new weird kitchen that I love! I have a 120" wall of new maple carmel stained base cabinets combined with uppers of my old cabinets that I painted BM white dove. I was going to glaze them but I liked the look w/o the glaze and it saved me work. I made a believer of my carpenter who also is a GC/KD with over 20 years experience.

You can use other elements such as the backsplash, lighting, and counters to tie the look together. Oh, take a look at black pearl or black labrador granite.

Well, we have something like you describe, though our window trim is painted to match the baseboard. The doors on the first floor are stained wood, while the doors on the 2nd floor are painted. The windows and stained doors are Douglas fir and the wood on the windows was so lovely that we couldn't bear to paint it. Of course, then we had to paint the baseboards and trim as we did not want to mix woods here and Doug fir for all the trim would have been prohibitively expensive. Floors are red oak. We are installing all new windows, doors, flooring, and paint. Floor is dark hardwood. Baseboards are white. Already ordered my windows/exterior sliding glass doors with stain grade pine thinking I would like to have stained wood windows/doors. Additional interior doors are mostly glass French doors, but there will be a couple solid pocket doors as well. My original intention was to stain all windows, doors, and trim (other than baseboards), but now I'm having second thoughts because I fear having all that stained wood in my house. My kitchen cupboards are white with a cobalt blue island. For reference, the picture attached illustrates the typical house style in my neighborhood (lots of interior and exterior stained wood - I like wood, but I'm trying to trike a balance). Do I... 1) Go with my original plan and stain all windows, sliding glass exterior doors, French interior doors, and stain the trim around these windows/doors? Baseboards are 5 1/2" so trim will probably be 3 - 3 1/2". Again, I'm worried this is a lot of wood - esp in the kitchen where the cabinets are painted white. Maybe it would work better if I matched the stain to the hardwood floor (which ishttp://www.johnsonhardwood.com/products/alehouse/copper-ale.html)? 1A) If yes to 1, do I get solid stained wood interior doors as well? Currently we have French doors specified in most major areas d/s except for laundry and bathroom. I'm worried having these be stained as well would be too much wood. However, the flipside would be having some wood doors/trim and some white doors/trim, which wouldn't match throughout the house, but maybe that's OK? 2) Just stain the windows/doors and go with white trim all around everything. This has the advantage of toning down some of the wood, plus it would flow nicely with the baseboard. I'm sorry! I posted & then forgot to check for replies. Houzz emails go to my "others" folder. Oops! To happy2b…gw, It's probably too late but the width of the cabinets on either side of the range is 32". The cabinet are alder with a "special walnut" stain & I believe a "Vandyke Brown" glaze - although there was question on whether the glaze was skipped. The countertops are granite - Typhoon Bordeaux. We went with a silgranit sink in truffle. Also - I love my faucet - The Simplice by Kohler. I had so much fun (and stress) picking out all the facets of the kitchen remodel! artemis_ma - I love my pet feeding station too! :) nancyjwb - Howdy neighbor! ;) We were thinking of doing shaker but thankfully our contractor suggested we do more detail & we fell in love with the cabinet style we selected. VERY glad he shifted us away from the straight shaker. We did shaker in our bathroom remodel but I think the detail it adds a little extra style to the kitchen. badgergal - Thank you! Nice get get positive feedback on something you put so much thought & effort into. I spend a lot more time just "hanging out" in my kitchen than I used to! :)

in the main room you have partial white windows. I'd paint them all white so that it matches. even the door casing. you can leave the wood doors. as for the baseboards, up to you. your wood ones don't look too bad. It's just a whole lot of wood, especially if you're bringing in arts/crafts type of oak furniture. the floor is oak but the baseboards and trim look like something else. I'd prob do that living room/kitchen trim/baseboards in Alabaster. wait for the other rooms until you get everything in and see how it looks you have to admit, it looks much fresher.

pudgybaby- great question and one I've been mulling over myself. There was a kitchen recently where the poster did just that. She had while trim above her sink but the window next to the refrigerator and in her adjoining family room were stained. Look through all of her photos- the ones I'm talking about are at the end.

I think what makes her kitchen so successful is the originality of it, the wood countertops that coordinate with her stained window trim, the stained wood island, painted beadboard trim and the warm feeling it gives off. It all goes together so beautifully!

Needssometips08: You made it obvious to me that rather than white, I am thinking cream, and as dumb as that sounds, it helps me. Where I can't picture white-white, cream makes a lot of sense.

Owls4me: any chance you could post some pics? Or point me to some that you have already posted? I would REALLY like to see your stained base/white upper combo - it sounds like this could really work for me!

corigimum: thanks for posting that link - twoscoops managed to mix a lot of different woods/paints/counter tops beautifully!

Pudgybaby, Although I've been around these forums over a year I have not posted pictures. I'll see if I can figure it out tomorrow and post my partially done mixed run. Wait until you start to decide on a white or cream color! Lots of great suggestions on this forum and the home decorating forum but you really have to test it in your home and watch the color sample over several days at all different times.

Hope this works.
As you can see, this is a work in progress but it should give you a general idea. I'm using maple butcher block in this area. The bun feet, corbels, hardware, quarter-rounder, finish coat are all still to come.
