What do you mean? You've already bought apps and you can't use them? What happens when you try?

I honestly have not tried very hard at the app store.....several did not look like what I wanted, so I just came back to this site!!
The programs I tried to download off of various sites....Ikea, Lowes, and a couple of others said various things...system not supported, etc.

Told you, NOT techie at all!! I tell people if it doesn't have four legs and a tail, we don't get along....

You can't install anything on the ipad that you didn't get at the app store, for starters. Nothing, nada, zilch (unless you jailbroke it, and then only stuff from the jailbreak sites).

The ikea planner only works on computers, not on mobile devices. There is an ikea app, but it's for shopping, not designing.

An ipad or android tablet is not a mac or windows computer. They run their own operating systems and you can't use software for other operating systems, just like it is on computers--if you have windows, you can't run mac software and vice versa (and to those reading this, yes I know all about virtualization but let's not complicate this).

So you need to go to the itunes app store and see if you see anything you like there, if you want software that will run on your ipad.

Hmmm. I hadn't thought about checking design apps for ipad. Mine is in the other room but I just took a look at ipad apps on itunes (via laptop).

This one (linked below) looks interesting and I might download the free version to see how it works, especially if this is as advertised:

Important note: if you decide to try the free version of the app you won't be able to save your design (according to the fine print) but you might be able to take a screenshot of it (which will be saved to iphotos). Do you know how to take screenshots using your ipad (or iphone)? If you don't - here's a link explaining how to do it:

The ikea planner does work again on macs since the update the other day, babs711.

I haven't looked too hard yet but it is possible to use browser based applications that aren't from the app store. However, Flash won't work - they should be java/javascript/css based instead. Downloaded aps from websites will not work either.

This may not be versatile enough for your needs, but I used IPad KeyNote to create a grid (using the table function, a full page of squares I defined as square foot each), and saved the table (at the visual size I wanted, filling the entire page) by taking a snapshot. I used the photo as an image in the background, and then made drawings, inserting measurements for everything. I created the visual I wanted, and then brought it to a kd.

Lots of work as I could not find an app, but I got the precision I wanted.
