Custom cabinet question... corner susan size needed.

So, I'm going with a corner susan with the attached swing around door. My cabs are nearly frameless (there is a 1" face frame). I see the biggest rev-a-shelf susan that can have doors attached is 31" in diameter. Why do I think the cabinet must be 36" at the back? Is that only to be able to have a 12" opening on each side of the corner? Or, does it have something to do with framed vs. frameless? What I mean is, are the doors wider on a frameless cabinet, thus having a bigger than 12" opening for the shelves to swing out as they turn?

Am I making any sense?

Since I'm having custom cabs, can I rob an inch or two off this thing to add to the drawer bases on either side and still have a 31" susan inside with a good opening?
