Kohler makes sinks in about 20 different colors. They can be special ordered from most any big box or plumbing showroom and then any granite fabricator can mount them to whatever slab of granite that you choose. Dark colors like black or cobalt show water spotting horribly. The medium colors like Mexican sand are a good compromise between white and a dark color, but then I think of all of those bathrooms out there that thought that pink or yellow fixtures would be a good idea at the time. THe light colors that area almost white like the biscuit, bone, or green tea would have the longest staying power and eventual matchability and still not be white. But, there's a LOT to be said in favor of classic white.

I, too, am having this problem. Our cabinets are on order, yeah, antique white with a glaze and medium color hickory cabinets on the island. Have looked at granite and are set on a cream/brown wavy one(can't think of the name). Plan on using cup pulls and knobs with a small detail around the edge. We are having quite a few drawers so lots of pulls. Our appliances are SS have a white not brite white farm house sink and a stainless faucet. I do agree that ORB would look great on the white cabinets. How about the hickory cabinets? What about light fixtures? Plan on having pendants over the island. Our dining room is connected. Tearing down the wall that seperates the 2 rooms-making the kitchen larger. I mention this because should the light fixture match the kitchens light fixtures, in style and in metal finish? The more I ponder this the more confused I get. Can't wait to work on ideas for a backsplash. ;-) Thanks for your help and input, norma

Perhaps the closest is "Taj Mahal", which is actually a quartzite. The downside is that you generally have to buy a slab, and they can be pricey and hard to find. Mountaineergirl, I'm sorry for being unclear. The $12/SF is just the price (retail) for the granite. Not including installation nor am I sure what if any markup the contractor takes. I discussed pricing generally with him a few weeks ago if he handled countertop because originally I had just had him price cabinets and installation. He told me the granite would generally run from $10-$50/SF depending on type, rarity etc. He said fabrication is usually ~$35-$50/SF again depending on complexity, type of edging etc. I want to stay at $50-$60/SF total so having the great good luck of actually loving a 'cheap' granite makes me optimistic that the budget won't be busted! Mentally I was/am prepared to have to go to almost $100/SF but am hoping it won't be that high. And too, I don't have all that much countertop to work with, only around 27 SF. One long run on the sink wall and two small sections on fridge/range wall. Hope that makes more sense.
