am I allowed to be this excited?

My kitchen reno is only on day 3 and I'm already just jumping for joy and dancing around my house. my construction guys must think I'm a fruitcake getting so happy at every little step. "oooh you have a hole in the yard!! YAY!!! ooh you've attached a sill plate YAY!" lol. Does anyone else do this?? or is just me??? I just feel like I've waited for so long and now it's finally happening!

so far the plan is to frame our new enclosed deck first (poor guys working outside) and then once that is framed they'll start demo'ing inside (the deck is all part of the new kitchen layout) so at least I've bought myself time to have a working kitchen through christmas which is good. I just can't wait for that first bit of inside demo though!

Here's a pic with the first couple of days progress on the deck. Where that small window is (the current bathroom) that will be the new sliders into the new kitchen.

Yes, by all means enjoy it. Our reno has been complete almost a year and I know this will sound nuts, I almost miss it.

I almost wonder why more of us don't change careers and go into this business of renovating kitchens. it is so dang fun.

That's great news. I am happy for you especially since your son is military. No matter how any of us feel about the war, we appreciate our military people. We spent many holidays alone. Because of the parents and step parents issue, I decided what ever day my children could be with us was "the" holiday. The Christmas my oldest granddaughter was four, they were stationed in Abeline. We lived in San Antonio and my son's father lived in Kingsvile and my DIL's mother lived in Robstown. The kids had their Christmas at home and then drove to SA. The next day we had our Christmas. The day after they drove to Robstown and had Christmans at my DIL's mother's house. They went to my ex's on Christmas morning and had Christmas. Soooooo,my granddaughter got up the day after Christmas expecting it all to happen again. She was a tad disappointed.

HelpMeFind is really useful, but only if the rose has been listed there under the name it's been sold under; sometimes with older, out of patent roses the wholesaler will stick an unregistered name on known varieties to sell them. These tend to be 'body bag' roses, or the cheaper plants at big box stores. https://www.helpmefind.com/rose/plants.php Most have a patent date on them, if they are patented (some antiques obviously aren't and never were). I want to say it's 20 years from when issued before the patent expires, but others could say for certain.

I fully understand trying to avoid moving the return. It can turn into a big project. I am type that likes to have everything symmetrical. That was the reason for suggesting not modifying the cabinet. Instead of cutting a hole in the solid door panel, would it be possible to replace the panel with a decorative mesh insert? If that could work then you place the same insert on both cabinets (I am back to being symmetrical again). The mesh could actually complement the overall design and you would get maximum air flow.

I loved it when we renovated our old house. I loved the smell of the wood, as they were framing and everyday was so exciting. I didn't even mind the w/e we had to use a ladder to exit our bedroom window to go around and enter the kitchen by the back door (staining and sealing wood floors in between those two)areas. I made coffee for my GC everyday etc. I knew I was ready for it to be over when I came out of the hall bath (masterbath being redone) in my underwear and ran into the painter at 7:30 AM and just kept walking! I missed the excitement for a long time. Every day was something new. Enjoy!

I've been so interested in and excited about each and every step that my guys just smile at me and say, "You are having WAY too much fun with this project!". Helps that they're pretty easy to "live with" as far as builders go and because this expansion is going to make such a HUGE difference in our quuality of living, but even so - I'm like a little kid. I ooh'ed and ah'ed over the plaster and lathe, I'm fascinated by how they do the various jobs, I'm learning TONS and I think it's just FUN!!!!

I think for me it goes back to when I was a kid and my dad always had our house in a state of remodel and repair. I was always fascinated by that too - 3 brothers and me and I was the one helping my dad not my brothers. So I guess it sort of feels comfortable to have drills out and wood lying around. that's about all I can think of. But I totally love the process.

Are you kidding ? I am into my third week of a "stuff I need to do leading into kitchen and bathroom remodel" project, and every day I come home, run around excitedly looking at progress, and rubbing my hands together while giggling manically ! Then I take pictures of everything to bore my friends and family with, and measure lots of stuff (just checkin', honest ! although I have already caught one issue by doing this).

This is SO EXCITING !!!!!

I think you are only a little behind me ... my progress has been something like this ...

"OMG ! HOLES !"

"OMG ! A NEW FENCE !"

"OMG ! CONCRETE !"

"EEEEEK ! they framed the deck !"

"OMG THERE'S SOMEONE OUT THERE ! There must be decking now !"

"Ooooh .... a LOT of stuff comes off when you do a complete roof tearoff, huh ?"

"Is redwood a good colour for me ?" says the dog.

"Wow, they are ready to roof on Monday ? cool !"

As you can see, I share your joy/wonder ! I have been waiting for this for over 2 years, since I moved in, and already I am loving it. I (so far) feel blessed with the builder that I found, he rocks. The house was so much warmer last night even with just the new insulation in the attic. I can't wait for the French doors to be delivered and for thos horrible ugly windows to be ripped out, and for my new kitchen and bathroom !

Please keep posting pictures and I hope your remodel continues to give you joy.

Well I'm glad I"m not the only one. your holes were lovely!!! I am blogging too - so I have no idea if my friends and family are even reading - I sent them the link and now I find that I really don't want to keep reminding them to go read hehehehee...

Oh yeah, I share your excitement. There's an added side benefit for me. The other morning, the electrician, the plumber and the contractor were all here at the same time. How else is a 65 year old woman going to have so many men beating a path to her door? LOL

I love it too! Even the little hiccups so far have not been too terrible. Of course it helps when you like the guys working on your house, and mine are really nice and easy as well. When all the demo first started I could not help going in the kitchen constantly to see what was up - every "BANG!" of the hammer tearing apart the old kitchen was thrilling - and then when they tore my soffit out - OMG! Heaven! LOL. The progress has slowed now (from a visual perspective), but I am still excited by the less thrilling things...like my island has power now, the sink is all plumbed, the beadboard is up, etc. I think I'll miss it too, when it's all done.

I've really got to get on with the finishing touches though (window coverings, floor coverings, new couch, stools) - if I don't they will never happen! Has anyone else had trouble tying up the loose ends? All the major stuff happens, and then the rest just seems to stagnate? It's almost like I've run out of steam (maybe it's really money?) and I have this fear that a year will go by and 1/4 of the kitchen will still be empty and the windows will still be bare....

Socal - I did GREAT on things like layout, learning about structural stuff, shopping for The Big Pieces etc etc.

The things that stymied me? Freaking PAINT and the backsplash. Light fittings. DECOR. The stuff that's supposed to be "easy" (and, not at all by the way, is completely within mycontrol and doesn't require "Will myhouse fall down if we do that?" prior approval!)

In my mind that stuff all "came at the end". Well, yeah, sort of. If your guys are fast like mine, that meant AT LEAST a month earlier than I was expecting!

socal, well I don't know about kitchens but we added an upstairs addition 4 years ago and I still have not hung a single curtain. We did paint all the walls though but not one curtain. I just can't figure it out. We have blinds. But it still just looks undone. I don't know why I can't finish. All I really need in my bedroom (with sage walls and white everything else) is simple white valances.

I HOPE to gosh that I can tie up the kitchen loose ends.
