Good dog-friendly kitchen flooring? (Wood, others?)

Wondered if any of you with large dogs (ours is an 80 lb lab mix) might have suggestions of kitchen flooring materials that will hold up well to lots of dog scrabbling across it. (I asked about this once many moons ago when we were just starting to think about the reno, but the post seems to have vanished---and figured there might be some other ideas out there a year later, too!)

We currently have ceramic tile, which is fine but ancient and when we replace it we want something that will be flush with the flooring in the adjacent dining room (tile sits several inches above the threshold). That pretty much leaves us with things that can sit directly or close to directly on the subfloor.

Right now we're looking at various hard woods and Marmoleum---anyone have any thoughts on how these have weathered in your kitchen with heavy traffic? Our subfloor is Douglas fir, and many people in our area just refinish that, but a soft wood seems like it's asking for trouble. The rest of the house is hundred-year-old oak with dark (cherry or mahogany?) inlay; DH is adamant about not trying to match the oak because he thinks there's no chance it will be exact, and he'll be more bothered by a close-but-no-cigar match than by going another route altogether. So, no oak---but open to anything else.

Basic goals are something that will not look all scratched up on day one; will hide dirt reasonably well (we have cream tile now which is a nightmare!), and will be relatively easy to clean.

Cabinets will be simple shaker style, either painted a shade of grey or in a medium tone wood (fir, QS oak, something in that family). Once we have a better sense of what to do for the floor we'll choose the cab coloring to make sure the room isn't too dark overall.

Would love to see your wood or linoleum floors (or anything else in the not-tile category!) that have held up well to your dogs/kids/other rough circumstances---thanks!
