chachasea-Sorry to be a pain, but do you know where to find pics of bluekitchenobsessed's kitchen? I did a search that wasn't helpful, and didn't see the name on the finished kitchen list. I was thinking creamy white island to keep thing light, but on the FK, I wasn't seeing ANY that mixed a lightish maple with a creamy white cabinet so I was worried there was a reason for that! rhome-thanks for the encouragement. I hope to post the hand drawn sketch I made for the KD but I can't get the scanner to work...thinking about just trying to take a picture of the paper! I would love for you guys to take a look.

I'm thinking the larger ones meet the criteria and look that you've described you're hoping for. This was the hardest part for me...Knowing how the scale of the lighting would work in the actual room. If you can, create a mock up of the size and shape and hang them up. That's what I did with paper plates, tape and string, to determine the size and length of my schoolhouse lights for my kitchen. If I'm figuring right, that larger light would hang approx 70" from the floor, which would be about 40" up from the table top. I intentionally hung the lights over both our dining room table and kitchen table at about 6 ft off the floor, so if we moved the table to clean, we wouldn't have to worry about tying them up so people wouldn't walk into them, plus I just don't like the lighting at eye level when I'm standing or walking around in the room.

Hi Tartanhabit, I definitely see the haze and agree with others that clearing that up might resolve the problem. Also agree with lyfia that it could be shadows. I am AMAZED at how much different tiles and paint chips look when I place them under the cabinets. Even if it doesn't look like they are in shadow, there is clearly a different quality of light back there. But problems aside, I love your tiles! I think they looks terrific with your cabinets and counters and I hope you're able to clear things up. They will look super when the haze is removed. What brand/color are they?

Thanks to those who provided specific input :) . Lowes Canada doesn't source the Federal Brace 8-in x 2-in Plain Steel Countertop Support Bracket. Any suggestions for Canadian sources of those? Or equivalent? Trebuchet, I assume I would need three of the Federal Brace 8-in x 2-in brackets? Could I install the plywood inside the cabinets (there is room)? Is there a reason why I wouldn't use the "L" shaped granite support brackets that don't have the cross-brace (knee knocking) like the example below? What about this Ekena Millwork 2"x8"x8" Hamilton Bracket? Price is good. Cold-rolled steel and it's supposed to be appropriate for granite. Is there any way to evaluate the many different brands of cold-rolled steel granite brackets? I am still trying to understand is shimming the bracket end(s) will be required to get a snug fit to the granite, and if so how would that be done?
