I love restoration hardware pulls but I need 67 of them! Anyone know where I can find quality hardware at a reasonable price?

I don't know what style or size you are looking for but in my first kitchen remodel I did hardware from Horton Brasses. This time around, the kitchen was bigger and I was doing large drawers. I wanted single pulls, so RH was pretty much the only option for those drawers. So I did a mix of RH and Horton Brasses and it turned out well. The Horton Brasses quality is excellent and it is a small business--easy to deal with. Prices are very reasonable.

blue lyme grass! Blimey, that's brave. I grew this in my gravel beds for a year or so but then bottled out on realising I was actually growing a turbo-charged couch-grass. I did swap over to the (better behaved) leymus magellanica,,,,, but this was deeply unhappy and vanished quicksmart....but not before seeding everywhere). I first read about the leymus arenarius in one of Christopher Lloyd books and rushed out to buy....but then later read that he (Lloyd) employed his youthful gardener to dig it up annually, chopping into the ferocious rhizomes and replanting....which obviously, I did NOT do, only to freak out in season 2 when the clump tripled in size. The leymus magellanicus was a heartbreakingly lush powder blue (never attained with any number of heliotrichums or festucas).......so I may have to make another attempt and maybe protect a little better from winter wet. I have been sowing your seeds (the zephyranthes reminded me), especially the penstemons and callirhoes. I have a (tiny) packet ready to send your way.

I'm a Honda girl!! --drive a Honda Odyssey and proud of it!). I have the Danze Opulence kitchen faucet in brushed nickel in our farmhouse-style kitchen. Would I have liked a Perrin & Rowe (was that the name?)? Absolutely! But at my price point, Danze seemed to fit the bill. Have had it for over a year, and still LOVE it! Especially the finish and weight of it--feels REALLY sturdy. And the brushed nickel finish is fabulous!! It's matte but has a great sheen to it...hard to describe, I guess. I liked it so much, I bought the Danze Fairmont faucet for our bathroom reno ($123) and the shower/tub combo for $147. Considering the Delta faucet I liked at Lowe's was $144, I think those prices aren't too bad!! Good luck--it's tough being on these forums and having a modest budget...you learn a lot, but I wouldn't really say that you save in the long run--your list of MUST HAVES just gets longer and longer... :) (terms/brands that were foreign to me before gardenweb...Rohl, Insta-Hot, Vent-A-Hood, Grohe, Miele, Danze, Rev-A-Shelf, Walker-Zanger, toe-kick drawers...and the list goes on and on!) I've gone way cheap and have liked it lot. I'm going back to 1910 or so for inspiration when a kitchen was a place to work rather than something to show off. It also means small is better. Lots of open cabinets which is cheaper. No dishwasher...seems way easier to me to hand wash dishes...but we also keep very few dishes so it's not really possible for dirty dishes to pile up. If you have 1 plate for each household member it's really hard for them to pile up. All dishes are stored right above the sink so washing, air drying and putting away takes zero steps. Can put away all the dishes in under 30 seconds. For stove top we've been using portable induction units, about $80-100 and boy do they work great. For the oven we use a toaster over...it works. I also use an electric fry pan for some dishes and a crock pot too. For turkey and such I use an electric roaster...which lots of people use at Thanksgiving so the oven can be used for other dishes. Been 5 years and haven't missed an oven. I really like being able to put whatever crooking device I'm going to use right on the butcher block counter, preparing the food and cooking right there in one spot. Zero is the smallest kitchen work triangle. For the fridge I like using an chest freezer, just need to turn down the temp, and another for actual freezer. Covering the tops for more counter space is easy, covering with a cabinet front is also easy. Super cheap and use about 1/10th the electric. So cheap you can afford to have 2 fridges at different temps. One a bit warmer for vegetables, white wine, condiments. Of course the huge downside that almost no one can deal with is having to bend over or "everything gets covered so you can't get at anything". Oh how I've heard that. Of course people have to bend over to get into their bottom freezer units and good luck digging thru to the back of those..."oh look, frozen peas endorsed by President Truman". Well, you don't actually have to cram them full of stuff you're never going to eat. In the history of the world ice cream has never gotten lost in the back of a freezer. Brussel sprouts? You're never going to see those babies again. I've also gone without a garbage disposal. No problem. I never have to stick my hand down in that sewer to pull out a chuck of bone, bottle cap, or whatever that thing was. Lots more flexibility. I look at my kitchen like a guy looks at a work shop. Lots of tools for specific tasks. Definitely not an option for people wanting to keep up with the Jones however.

Do some basic research to learn about differences and about cabinet construction. Use the search function on this forum to find the numerous threads explaining the difference in MDF versus plywood as well as opinions on drawer construction and the width of MDF/plywood used in different parts of the cabinet. Use the search function to learn about the performance of painting cabinets using wood versus MDF. There are numerous threads Once you have decided basically what you want, get a KD to provide you with a layout and price. When I was going through the process, I used a big box store just to get a sense of what it might cost me in terms of the layout. The layout may or may not be the most perfect one or the one you would ultimately use but it will give you a bullpark figure of what the cabinets will cost and enable you to get a sense of what different lines would cost you as long as you realize this is just an estimate and you try to keep it apples to apples. I did visit different places including independent kitchen design shops to research as I wanted to get a sense of what was available and what the price range was. At least in my area the kitchen design places were low end/moderate and very high end but even within the moderate, they might have their lowest price and an upper price in terms of there being a range. I didn't visit 20 shops but visited enough as I wanted to check out the lines that I was considering - Dynasty, Kraftmaid, Omega - can't remember some of the others. But I wasn't actively trying to see if Kraftmaid or Dynasty was cheaper at one store or another but just seeing what the estimated price differential was for the lines I was considering and how they might work within my total kitchen remodel budget. Keep in mind that the upgrades that most people want are going to drive up the price so any blurb that states that it is $x per linear foot of cabinetry has no relevance. Unless you plan to assemble the cabinets yourself, there is no cost savings in general. This forum is really most helpful when you have specific questions after you have done your own research on basics.

It might be helpful if you mentioned which pulls you liked - then people who know of similar pulls at a cheaper price might be able to contribute. I'm not very knowledgeable about available hardware.

Also, your post title implies that you want "good hardware that will break the bank". That's why I dropped in - I wanted to see those $600 pulls :)

Good/Quality hardware cost big $$$ - there are no shortcuts, sorry.

Most people end up settling for OK hardware at OK prices or getting great looking stuff that doesn't last because of budget. Only you can decide what fits your needs.

I don't know if you've tried Ebay but from my experience and that of several neighbors and family, a good deal can be had for some really quality products.

Six years ago we did a mini-update on our kitchen....paint, lighting and new hardware for all the cabinets.

I searched Ebay for what seemed like months (it wasn't, it only seemed like it). I was looking for a Seller with thousands of sales with great feedback. Then I compared the brands/style I liked on Ebay to high-end stores locally and online.

When I was in doubt, I would purchase just one knob/handle from a seller so that I could see/feel it myself.

Six years ago I ended up purchasing the Oil Rubbed Bronze Nantucket Knobs and Handles.

With this kitchen reno, I was determined to use the same cabinet hardware (mini budget) but I needed a few more now that I have more drawers and cabinets.

I went back to the original Seller from six years ago and he still carried the same knobs and handles and since I had already purchased from him and the handles/knobs from six years ago still looked just as good as the day I purchased them, I went ahead and purchased the extra knobs I now needed. I received the package in four days.

My experience: Fast Ship, Good Quality so far (six years +), individually packaged knobs/handles with screws included, a pretty significant difference in price and since the Seller wasn't in my state, I didn't pay any tax.

Six years ago during my research of knobs, I would have paid almost twice as much for the exact knobs/handles by the same maker had I purchased them locally or online at a big-box or knobs/handles store.

Well, I do know of this line of solid 23K gold knobs and pulls......

But truly, you can get the same "look" in a gold PVD brass or a gold plated zinc. I'm only sort of kidding here. Its not the "pretty pretty" on top that's important in a quality knob. Quality materials cost. Solid gold (or solid stainless, or solid brass) is expensive, and it's price will reflect that. PVD ("plated") brass is second in line in quality and is still good quality. Most knobs on the market today, except for good quality stainless ones, will be PVD brass. This isn't a cheap process. The plated zinc ones are down the line in quality and price. Sure, they'll probably be OK for many people, but they won't hold up to the stress of a refrigerator pull, or a single large drawer pull. If you're on a budget, find a good quality line that has it's "knockoffs". Use the good quality line for the heavy duty stuff, and the knockoff line for the less visible and less used cabinets. But, once you get in the knobs and compare them side by side, you may regret going knockoff. Even an untrained eye can feel the weight difference and see the quality of finishing.

This is definately a case of you get what you pay for.
