Beware of Blanco silgranit sinks & other hindsights
Comments (76)Blanco sinks are garbage! I purchased the Siligrant (despite some bad reviews) and I regret it more than any decision I made. It stains. It scratches. It looks terrible after less than 6 months of being VERY CAREFUL with everything that touches the sink. Which by itself, is a rip-off. If this sink is so durable, scratch-resistant, stain-resistant, etc. Why do you have to thoroughly clean and dry every inch after every use?? It doesn’t matter how diligent you are cleaning this sink, IT STAINS. PERIOD. Everything stains this sink. The Blanco cleaner does nothing. Baking soda and “elbow grease” does nothing. Even the protective grates sole by Blanco to “protect” the sink left a stain! That’s right, the Blanco grate feet stain the bottom of the sink. It’s all garbage. Blanco warranty is garbage too. I sent pictures to Blanco customer service and demanded a refund. Of course, they denied me any form of customer service. I was told the warranty doesn’t cover scratches and stains. I wasn’t trying to make a warranty claim. I want a refund for a deceptive marketing claims. Every single selling point of this sink is a bold lie. It stains worse than any surface I’ve ever handled in my life. It looks dingy. It scratches and it is certainly NOT low maintenance! Blanco should be ashamed of themselves and don’t be fooled by their team of sales reps that troll this app looking for bad press. They’ll chime in with a long, detailed story of how great their sink is...Bla bla bla. If you look at the profile you’ll likely find that they sell Blanco or work for a builder that sells Blanco, even worse, they will have no other activity except with other BLANO affiliates or reps. Houzz is quite as bad as Amazon or google reviews, but it’s getting close. Pay no special attention to the “PRO” tag when they are pushing a specific brand or going against a very popular opinion. More likely than not, they have skin in the game. Blanco does most business on wayfair and build.com now...and that’s because real industry professionals, builders, designers, etc. don’t recommend Blanco. It’s low end with big prices, treading on the “made in Germany” coat tail. Worst sink ever. Bye Blanco. Eventually, they’ll be contracting with builders for college dorm bathrooms. Comments (14)Thanks to all who have replied so far & those upcoming. Amazing & I really do appreciate it - chris45ny, websitegirl, breezygirl, mabeldingeldine, a2gemini & cindyof4kids. Chris45ny, all you can do is give me your opinion and I appreciate you taking the time to reply. Westiegirl, glad to hear you have not felt the need to get a sink grid after 4 months. I must say that I am a little suspicious of the HD sink. We hear that often, about items not being the same from super stores - usually faucets & such. Breezygirl, odd how we feel like we know you because we have heard & seen so much from you. I am especially glad you replied because I know you have the same metallic grey color as I do and I knew you didn't start out with a sink grid. I suspect I will hate them too, as I didn't care for them the few times that I washed at other people's sinks with grids & have hated things getting trapped under there & things not able to stand in the sink, etc. Mabeldingeldine, glad to hear you have put that sink through a lot & super hot water to boot. Awesome news! Maybe the problem is in extremely cold areas? I am a little envious of the thought of your garden & even more envious of your chilies! Spicy, my favorite. I have a small outdoor deck where I grow flowers. Nowhere for veggies & such, but I still love tinkering in my little garden. A2gemimi, I haven't forgotten you & I have been lurking late at night. I replied to your PMs so I hope you got my replies. My faucet is centered. You can PM me to see how I like it centered, as things will be too crazy for me to check GW daily. After I move back, I will have to furnish most of my place and I have a 3 year old keeping me very busy. Try me after the weekend - maybe next Tues and check if I have any thoughts on it. If you need an answer sooner, email away & I'll let you know. I expect chaos when I first move back because work is not completely done, but my husband is determined to go home. Cindyof4kids, I too feel like the disposal & the grid combo will be an issue. Glad again to hear about the hot water stories. So, my plan is to skip the sink grid and ride this pony bareback. If I find I need a saddle, I'll deal with it then. Again, much thanks. Jamrock...See MoreHow to clean paint off a Blanco silgranit sink?
Comments (16)Ngng--I linked an old thread in the Remodeling forum regarding removing grout haze from a Silgranite sink. Poster there used CLR. A note of caution--depending on your sink drain fitting, the CLR might do a number on it, so be very careful if you're not certain whether or not the CLR might damage/ mar the finish of the fitting. (A thin coat of Vaseline would help protect it.) Try_hard--If you haven't already thought of this--would be a good idea to fill your sink with hot water & some dishwashing liquid and letting it soak for a couple of hours or overnight before you try tackling it with BKF. Assuming the paint residue isn't fully cured, the soak should help to soften it up a bit. Comments (7)For heat resistance I think all you need do is check the mfg specifications. Corian is heat-resistant to 325 degrees; it's the integrated sinks where you need to be careful with boiling water because of the glue used (seams are always the weak point in any kitchen counter/sink material). I'm not sure what Silgranit's max temp resistance is. My drop-in 32" Swanstone single-bowl sink is rated for 375 degrees. I never run cold water when I drain pasta, and have had no problems since its 2003 install. The only thing SoftScrub won't get out of Swanstone is rust stains from cans. But oddly, they disappear after a while just from ordinary use (e.g., running water) after a couple of months. Mine is top-mount, but you can undermount it. The deck is pretty thin (compared to our previous Kohler cast iron, LOL) so it would add 1/4" to depth when you're bending over. My DH would agree on a too-deep sink. He finds its 10" depth too deep for him (he's 5'10"). I'm four inches shorter and have no problems with the depth. He'd prefer an 8- or 9-inch sink, that would work better for him. So far they haven't been able to make solid surface sinks longer than 31/32" for a single-bowl, last I heard....See Moredakota01
