At last. Coastal inspired white kitchen is DONE.

It's been five months and we are a wrap(!) The guys left today and while it was bittersweet - loved them and having them here, but I have to say the quiet and alone time in the new space is, well, kinda nice!

Here is the kitchen in all it's new glory...

Congratulations. Beautiful, awesome and such cool lighting. Love the blue ceiling...you definitely put a lot of personality into your kitchen. I'm extremely jealous of your gorgeous windows looking out into all that green!

What coast might this be? may I ask. I notice the lovely sunshine and flowering things outside the windows, so I'm guessing not Maine.

I love the above-couner open storage with beadboard backs. Actually, I love lots of the little detail items.

kksmama - you can see the finished kitchen post with my backsplash. I linked to it below. I probably should have been ABB longer because my first attempt was a disaster and I decided to pay to have it ripped out and replaced with something completely different. And even the new one, I assumed that the tiles would be spaced further apart with more prominent grout lines but found out too late I was wrong. tbo123 - cabinets were sprayed. Phylhl, Ceramic tile is a relatively maintenance-free product that requires little continuing care beyond regular cleaning. Most cleaning can be done with a damp cloth and a gentle non-acidic soap. More resistant staining such as calcium spotting and soap scum can be handled using specially designed cleaning products such as Miracle Sealants Mira Clean I product. Other manufacturers such as Stone Tech also offer products specially formulated for ceramic tile care. Take care to avoid Ã¢ÂÂover the counterÃ¢ÂÂ ceramic tile cleaners that contain phosphoric and glycolic acids that could etch some ceramic tile surfaces. Because crackle glazes are prone to absorbing stains, you may want to consider using a penetrating sealer. In areas that experience regular moisture, such as showers, resealing crackle glazes is a necessary maintenance procedure but for a kitchen backsplash, not completely necessary. If you don't seal the tile the crackles will darken over time giving it an antique type look. Some people love this, it is just up to you on what you want to do. Using a sealer does not affect the quality or appearance of the tile, just make sure you don't use too much or the sealer will leave a film on the surface. Thanks again to everyone else who has posted their kind comments :) Rhome, I do not have plans. My old boss, drew up and informal before and after. Just enough to pass through our building department, who did not require an accurately scaled set. In fact, I was allowed to "sign and seal" the set on my own. We never actually lived in the house with the "old" kitchen - what you see was how it was when we looked at the house. The prior Owner wasn't living there, but left all his stuff in the kitchen while living elsewhere. I mean, there was even some things in the fridge! It was kind of weird if you ask me. We left the sink and oven in the same place for two reasons. One, I didn't want to move the plumbing and liked having the small window above the sink. Second, again, I didn't want to move the gas service, trying to keep costs down where I could. I couldn't get a 36" in due to a structural situation (that beam runs across the room right there and, the waste stack goes up inside the wall there also - would not have been cost effective to move that since we were not able to address the bathroom above yet). The refrigerator, we had to move and wanted to. It's old position made no sense on the back wall at all and since a sliding door was going in, it had to go. Putting it across from the sink and stove, was a much better solution, along with the microwave. The kitchen, flows well in that I don't have to walk very far to get to any of my appliances from each other at all. I designed the cabinets to hold what I need near each appliance. The two lower cabinets at the stove are all pull-outs and hold pots and pans (surprisingly a large amount of them fit into these). The large lower cabinet to the right of the sink on the corner is a double trash bin, easy to dump out leftovers before they go into the sink. Most dishes (and pots/pans) are stored right over the dishwasher and near stove. Glassware and serving pieces are over the counter where the toaster and coffee maker are 0 LOTS of space in these two. Pantry items are easily accessible (the one near the fridge is mostly dry goods; cereal, pasta, tea, coffee, cookies, etc.) and I included 3 drawers under the largest one to use for a bread drawer, a drawer for bags/foils/wraps and the last as my junk drawer. The cabinet under the microwave holds canned goods and the one next to it holds medications (I don't keep them in the bathroom) and some other miscellaneous things which I like having at hand in the kitchen. Under the sink is a pull-out, which houses the usual stuff. I have a cabinet specifically for herbs/spices and one specifically for oils/vinegars/smaller baking needs. I have 3 glass front cabinets for some of my Fiestaware and other decorative items and one other large pantry, as I mentioned, for larger cooking items, baking pans, and other things. The triangular end cabinet is a kind of catch-all for chopping boards, measuring cups, what have you and the lazy susan has colanders, plastic ware, casserole dishes and some other stuff. Oh, and the large cabinet over the fridge holds roasting pans, my huge lobster pot, and I'm not even sure what else right now lol. Eventually, the sort of empty space where the table now sits needs to be finished off somehow. I envision more cabinetry on the wall, probably with a TV inside it. Perhaps some more storage at the bottom with a counter coming off the wall. Or, a very small table, with cabinets. Just not sure yet. Ok I've blathered plenty. BTW anyone that has ideas for a backsplash feel free to toss them out for me. I just really haven't seen anything which has wowed me yet.

I like the slopped v-groove over the kitchen....but I find Interesting back and forth on this thread. Having installed many, many white marble in kitchens over the last 5 years of what I would call "white marble fad", I would have to say that marble is one of the least practical stones that can be installed in either kitchens or baths. We probably have follow-up work for over 80% of clients that do install these counters. The poster who recommended cutting boards is spot on - you should be militant in using them. I feel badly for our customers that need this follow-on work but they have that need for the marble at the outset and so the look overrides the practicality. I am surprised that wine, tomato products and vinegar hasn't etched as even 3 - 5 seconds of those on a surface whether its marble or Danby marble can definitely scar the surface. We do sealant the product but that is only good for 6 months - they say 1 year but that isn't the case. Even then it doesn't stop all the etching. Two of our clients recently swapped out their marble - thankfully we are just installers not the people that designed the kitchen. We just do what we are told and charge for it. We do a lot of re-honing but that is not without risks as marble contains fissures or layers that can bust up even in delicate rework. Marble is a very hard stone to work with as a professional. The look is very in right now and your kitchen does look great - I like the differential in your ceiling - very cool. Silver Stone Contractors, Inc.

Oh wow. I get weak in the knees when I see white coastal kitchens. So I was drooling at the subject of your thread and then when I saw the pictures, WHOA!!!! I'm in love! The floors, the coffee bar, the pebble backsplash, those windows, the pop of color on the ceiling, wow, wow, wow!!!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

Oh my gosh!! What a beautiful and unique kitchen! I love your colors--the cabs with the beautiful wood siding and the floor and the wall & ceiling colors--I'm blown away!!! What I love best is that it all comes together to make a very comfortable and casual space that anyone would be lucky to spend time in. Congratulations!

Your kitchen is splendid. The pebble backsplash and the driftwoodish horizonal boards are a wonderfully subtle counterpoint to the elegant simplicity of white cabinets, marble, and subway tile.

WOW! Love this kitchen. I like the way everything comes together. I love the stove wall, (and the sink wall). The floors look great against the green outside. I don't know if that was intentional but what a great by-product of your design.

Simply put, I would just love to have your kitchen in my house. It is so beautiful and comfortable at the same time. Your attention to detail is spot on yet it looks breezy and effortless at the same time. You really nailed it!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments! As you all well know, the whole process of redoing a kitchen (or any room for that matter) is both exciting and (often can be) so frustrating! I've always looked to the day, when I can put up MY "finished kitchen" pics and that day is here! Ha.

Ahh, the painted wall. It's funny, it's the first thing people see and what most people comment about. It quickly became our favorite part of the kitchen and it was one of those things that we hadn't planned on when designing the kitchen.

The contractors exposed the pine boards when they were demoing and we took one look at it - then a deep patinaed (sp?) brown - and said "Don't do a thing. Please leave it as is! We'll paint it!". And that's what we did.

honorbiltkit & Kitkin: I posted a whole thread about this. If you search "amylucey" all my threads will come up and it's one of the most recent. I went into deep detail in that thread of what paint I used, technique, etc. The good news is that it was SOOOO easy! The key is the grey paint. (Not white).

P.S. Suzannesl: We are actually not even close to the beach! (I so wish we were!) Each time I step into the kitchen though, i feel as if we are - that was the plan. Tee hee. We've spent a lot of time on Cape Cod and Nantucket and the materials and palatte used in this kitchen really are inspired by both places. (Esp. beadboard, lighting, etc)

That's so cool that the horizontal boards were original to the house! I assumed you added them (and thought they looked very cool) but the fact that they're original is way cooler!

I am green with envy! I tell you, I may have to stop coming to this forum. Kitchens like this are TORTURING me! Simply stunning. I am going to do white shaker cabs also (whenever we get some $$$ to do the kitchen) and I really like the style of your kitchen. When I read the thread title, I kind of skipped the word "inspired" and did not expect to like it because I don't really care for anything too beachy. But you are right, it is not "themey" at all, just inpired!

LOVE IT ALL!!! How cool to find those horizontal pine boards during the demo! If only all demo surprises were that nice!

So many great touches as others have mentioned above. I really love the long farmhouse table; it's perfect in your lovely space.

I'm considering stealing your fun idea of the candy corn in the candle holders... but I'm afraid we'd be reaching in there all day to pilfer some.

It's all been said before: Love the blue ceiling, the very cool pebble backsplash, the whitewashed siding, the row of windows.... Sigh, you've created a wonderful kitchen. It's such a soothing space, I can't imagine getting upset during a cooking disaster. My souffle fell? Oh, well, look at how pretty my kitchen is! Aaaaaah, feel the tension melt away.

I am so glad that I stopped back to the GW forum today and did not miss your post. I am a huge fan of all things costal inspired. There are so many elements that are just breathtakingly gorgeous in their own right, but even more so when grouped together. I love the blue on the ceiling, the marble counters, the door treatments to the laundry, the large and numerous windows, the pebbles, the whitewash siding, the lights, and the kitchen table. This is all from memory after first glance...now I have to go back and really look again.
Congratulations on a creating a very calm, cohesive, beautiful space!
