WWYD in this kitchen for counters--all soapstone or ss & marble?
Comments (22)If you can find enough suitable soapstone for all the counters, that would be my first choice--I think the dark counters will be perfect with the tone of your cabinets. And, you already have a marble slab to use for pastry. I'm linking a thread that has pics of a couple of GW members' kitchens, which are similar in tone. (And gorgeous, BTW.) **Edited to correct spelling of cotehele. My apologies. Comments (27)Interesting: I am leaning towards installing an Elkay EGUH2816 sink (http://www.elkayusa.com/cps/rde/xchg/elkay/hs.xsl/elkay-res-97621.aspx). The installation instructions copied below specify a 1/2" positive reveal for "aesthetic" reasons: Warning: the enclosed cutout template will create a countertop opening that will expose approximately 1/2" of sink rim ledge. It is recommended that you discuss this with your customer and agree that this finished appearance is the desired effect. Due to the aesthetic qualities of the converging bowl radii, the template furnished with each sink provides the only opening recommended for installation of Elkay undermount sinks. See illustration above. Here is a link that might be useful: Elkay installation instructions...See Morequestionable fabricator of our soapstone counter tops
Comments (10)Florida Joshua installed our soapstone in May. We have a seam in our sink . . . . that you can't find. People have to search to find the 3 seams in our stone, because they are hard to see/feel. He used a black epoxy, it looks like your fabricator used white? And the bit about soapstone being porous and the water seeping in? Puhlease. False. Here's my sink. The seam is in the lower left hand side of the sink, about 3 inches in. Good luck trying to find it. This is freshly oiled. This is 3 months after install. We aren't oilers. As you can see, not having the stone oiled doesn't affect seeing the seam....See MoreUnder mount sink falling from granite countertop
Comments (7)I had an Undermount sink with granite countertop and 3/4 hp disposal for 13 years. Filled it with water, heavy pots, leaned on it. Did not separate in 13 years. Yours is 100% installer error. Your contractor is blowing smoke. Even worse, sink installation is pretty basic and any contractor who calls himself a contractor should have mastered it. I'd be worried about what else is wrong that he did....See Moresandn
