All fridge/all freezer combo? (small ones)
Comments (1)You are going to have to live with more energy consumption - you have 2 units. Get seperate outlets, if both compressors kick on together you'll blow the circuit on a single line. Very bad if it happens while you're not home and don't notice for a while You're space - especially depth and ht. requirements are going to make it tough for you to find anything....See MoreI need all fridge/ all freezer suggestions
Comments (17)I wrote in this forum seven years ago about the Frigidaire all-freezer and all-refrigerator combo. We installed them as past of a major condo remodel - and have been TOTALLY happy with our choice. They are cabinet depth with zero clearance - a big deal for us. We find the refrigerator space "adequate," though a hidden benefit of the less-deep shelves is that we have no biology experiments molding away undiscovered in the back! The freezer space is awesome! Not to mention the jaw-dropping looks we get when visitors first enter our kitchen! Again, it's seven years later, and we have not had one single issue with the pair. If we build a new house, the kitchen will be planned around this same Frigidaire combo. Not sure the Electrolux-branded pair are worth the extra $$$, as they also make the Frigidaire units...See MoreQuestion for owners of Electrolux ICON all fridge & all freezer
Comments (7)rhome 410 -- thanks for your response and your kitchen looks fabulous! You have given me some hope that the ICONS may work for us too. In both cases (left of freezer and right of fridge) the "wall" is actually part of a cased opening, so our situation is somewhat similar to what you have with your freezer. But our "wall" is a bit deeper -- the plans call for these walls to extend about 17" beyond the face of the fridge/freezer. We could make the cased openings a little wider if we need to. Would you mind telling me the distance between the face of your freezer and the doorway that the freezer door opens into (you say it is "about a foot or more")? And I'm assuming you can get your freezer door open wide enough to remove bins for cleaning? You are correct that most other fridges/freezers would have the same problem, but I have found a set that would work for us and of course they cost a mint. The Sub Zero 700TR and 700 TF would require much less clearance, and they are also narrower (27" instead of 32") so I could bump the fridge to the left and freezer to the right without changing cased openings and have plenty of wall clearance. They are shallower too (24") which would be better for our layout. But for a $8,400 savings, I sure would like to make those ICONS work! The ICONS look great online and in your kitchen. My reservations were mostly based on my visit to our local dealer. The dealer was very unimpressive and could not even understand my question, much less answer it....See MoreAll fridge and all freezer, room for door swing?
Comments (4)The 4.75' should be total depth space (front edge of door to back wall) and add an inch or so for vent space behind. Take a look at the product specs and/or installation guide. Here's a picture from the specs for the 18.6 cubic ft all fridge: If your island is 3.5' (42") away from the counters (assuming 24"), then you have 42+24=66" from wall to island; then subtract an inch or two from that for counter overhang. (Unless the 3.5' is counter-to-counter not cabinet-to-cabinet.) So let's say 64". If the Fridge needs 4.75' or 57" with the door open 90*, then you have roughly 7 inches between the front edge of the door and the island. Not enough room for another person to scoot by, but enough to open the door. These are the specs I looked at: specs Your model may be different. I recommend posting your question and a full layout on the kitchens forum for really great layout advice!...See MoreBuehl
