Not sure on your BB. Another trick is to see if there is a sticker on the back of the sink cabinet door. Should be a KCMA sticker that it passed the certification, it will have a 4 digit (I think) code on the back that you can reference on their website.

You've looked at two drawers. Look at every one.

Manufacturers are not all everywhere equally. Post your geography.

Are you sure that they were from a manufacturer? Our mid-70s cabinets were site built. Instead of being modular boxes that were attached together, the face frame was continuous along a run.

Davidro1 - interesting...other drawers have DIFFERENT initials - KB. They appear to be written in pencil actually. Initials of person who installed or made them? Re: geography. I am in the Atlanta, GA area.

I have this in my 1979 kitchen. Each cabinet run is done as one giant cabinet with many doors instead of looking like separate boxes ganged together. In the case of my site-built cabs, that's because each run is one big box, but at that time they often made the front out of one continuous piece to give that look, even when they used actual separate boxes for each cabinet.

My original cabinets were site built. Instead of cabinet boxes with usually one or two doors, a whole section or wall run may be built together so that there are no breaks on the front -- what cloudswift is talking about. The front may look more like a section of plywood with holes cut out for the doors than a group of boxes.

Another sign they were site built would be no backs on the cabinets. It might not be obvious since they might have been sprayed in place. My drywall was painted the same as the cabinets, but it feel different than even thin backing wood. Another clue would be paint overspray or stain on the areas around them if you have peeled wallpaper hung around them or have taken up flooring in front of them. My shelves had supports along the full length and were all fixed in place to give stability to the whole thing

Looks like maybe they were site built. The section over the stove seems to be one piece. Even the shelves inside appear to be one piece. They do have backs on them but it looks like that cardboard stuff that comes with RTA furniture.

I'm from Atlanta too and have been trying to think of a local cabinet company that might have used the shop mark BB back in the 80's. Only possibility, and it is a slim one, is Berkeley Woodworking - maybe they were originally Berkeley Brothers or something similar. In any event, they make quality cabinets, so they would not have produced anything with the flimsy back you described. But they have been around for a while, so you might try calling to see if they know who used this shop mark back then. Good luck! Let us know if you solve the mystery.
