Pot-filler on exterior wall?
Comments (7)You'd need to fur out the entire wall and install additional insulation. And then redo all of your window and door moldings on that wall to account for the extra thickness. Or do a "step back" where the cabinet wall joined the regular wall. Or just do a deck mount. Or skip it entirely. Most clients I've interviewed a year later after their projects have been complete don't really use it but a time or two. There are a couple that say they use it constantly, and for which the added expense and headaches would probably be worth it. Those are the ones who make their own stock, or simmer soups all day long, etc....See MoreDeck mounted or wall mounted pot filler??
Comments (2)i don't know which is better...but for us we love the wall mount. i didn't even look at deck mount b/c i didn't want it taking up the space on counter, cleaning around base and generally didn't like the look of it overall. after having it installed for over a year, we are so pleased with the p/f and glad we installed it. we use it for so much more than just filling the pasta pot, so for us, it was worth it. i think it would come down to personal preferance in the end but someone with more knowledge might have other points. we have hansgrohe 'talis c'....See MorePot-filler on exterior wall?
Comments (2)I'm in Pennsylvania and it gets cold here too. I have a shower fixture on an outside wall with an access panel on the outside. its all covered in siding with J channel around it so it can be removed to service. I know it is well insulated and the pipes are wrapped too. it has never frozen even when it has got to 10*F outside....See MoreIsland Cooktop with Pot Filler
Comments (13)Well, I was actually going to mention that but forgot -- if you are getting a prep sink in the island as well, then just get a (tall) faucet which is made for filling pots as well. Personally I did not want a prep sink as I have a sink which is pretty centrally located and which has a second RO faucet if needed. Also, one benefit a pot-filler has over a normal faucet (which seem to be much slower nowadays) is the rate that the water comes out --- it is really fast with a pot-filler. So when you're cooking multiple pots of potatoes, it speeds it up quite a bit - although I don't necessarily think this is the main reason to get a pot-filler :). I have not had any problem emptying the pots in cases where I need to empty them - although I would want a fairly big sink to empty full pots in or I could envision a bit of a mess.
