So excited- first glimpse of book matched slabs!

Sorry if you are sick of seeing my pictures but I am so excited I just had to share. The granite people just put the slabs together to see how they book match and wow. Just wow. I had only looked at the slab individually before this and we were not sure exactly how they would all come together so I was quite happy when they sent the pics!!

Katiee511 we're suckers too, we have done the same thing, running around like chickens with our heads cut off to accommodate everyone who wants to be everywhere at once! As you can see from the picture we cleaned it out that evening so he could start in that room first thing this morning. Traci, you are so smart to move out, I'm betting the fumes from refinishing will be overwhelming for the first 24 to 48 hours at least! Our 8 year old border collie thinks she's 6 months old too, what kind of dog do you have? Between our two dogs, the house becomes a race track several times per day! It should be interesting to see how they slip and slid on the new wood everywhere, including the bedrooms! Our last house had much more storage space, this new one doesn't have an attic (they didn't use the right trusses) or a basement so we've jammed stuff in every nook and cranny! A friend of mine got one of those PODS during her remodel and we probably should have too...oh well too late now! Good luck with your remodel! Bestyears I will post pictures after I see the amount of destruction two herding dogs can do to quartersawn white oak! Good thing they are both cute! Kat :)

I haven't been very good about updating because we've been literally waiting for paint to dry. The cabinets have been sprayed by I think the most meticulous painter I've ever met. He is very particular about his work, which I love! He wanted us to wait 2wks before the guys came to install to make sure the paint had time to cure. In that time, I've made countless trips to the tile store, only to decide that I'll wait on my tile choice until it's all been installed. This way I can better visualize what would look good in my space. I am thinking a simple subway tile. Let's see what I end up with! I also made several trips to buy sample paint. I did decide on SW Humble Gold for the small powder room off the kitchen. I really like it with the brass fixtures that we have in there. I had a much harder time with the main room. I thought I had finally narrowed it down to the perfect color. Then, 4pm, the night before the painter was set to come, I had some doubts. So, I went off to the store again for one more can. I did change it to the lighter color and I'm happy with that choice. Good bye pink tinged walls! Much better now! We did have another issue come up when the cabinet maker delivered cabinets for the laundry room. One of them was too short. He said he thought that's what we discussed. Then, I took out my notebook with my notes from that meeting with my drawing. Thank goodness for my crazy note-keeping! Anyway, he said he sent his drawings to the GC. They can work it out, but in the end, he said he's correct it and bring the new cabinet out later this week. So, now I'm in the calm before the storm. They start back tomorrow with installing the appliances, installing the doors, etc. I really hope it all goes well with no more surprises. They think they will be done by Friday...let's see. Then, I'll just have hardware and backsplash left! Thanks for following along with me :)

Yes, the floor is the cement before the final flooring...I guess it does look pretty in photos all covered with drywall dust -the flecks all over the photos :-) . The final floor will be a medium-dark wood, probably hickory. The doors were custom made because I couldn't find anything I liked. I went through ProBuild, and they had their custom doormaker do them. It was cheaper than buying from Masonite and various other companies. The solid mahogany ended up being so beautiful that I'm not going to stain them, just do a clear protective coat.One is the front door, which will be flanked by the two narrow panels. The mud room is the same door without the panels since it faces the front of the house, too.

Not exactly a decorating book, but the first that informed my aesthetic was The Bloomingdales Book of Entertaining. Why my mother had it I'll never know. I only remember a handful of parties throughout my childhood. But as I recall, there was talk of creating environments for entertaining and I read through it many times. My first real decorating book was probably Laura Ashley Decorating with Patterns and Textures in the early 90's. Paint Magic was also in my First Five! both came from the Atlantic Book Warehouse in Cherry Hill, NJ. What fun that place was!

It is so nice that everyone on this forum gets why I am so excited about some slabs of stone :)

Yes, the slabs are blue bahia. And it does seem a shame to cut them up!

And yes, we are doing a massive island (13 ft. long by a little over 4 ft. deep) with the seam in the middle and a butterfly pattern.

Sick of seeing that! Never! Can't wait to see the install. Actually, it makes me feel a little boring with my Calacata Oro. Maybe I will get a big cutting board of blue bahia to sit right in the middle of my island. And stare at it.

Beagles- It's beautiful! I think you made the perfect choice :)

It really paid off, being so particular, when you were deciding on the right stone, for your kitchen island. You were 100% right to pick the blue bahia...it's just lovely! What are you doing with the excess stone? Maybe handing them out as Christmas gifts? Uhmmm...How do I get on the list? LOL

LOL Lavender. There isn't going to be much extra stone! We are using the remaining pieces for the surround for the fireplace in the sunroom which you'll be able to see from the breakfast nook. The room is painted the same blue as the kitchen cabinets that we color matched to the granite and the Bahia is also creating a hearth on the floor.

I can't WAIT for this all to be installed. They wanted extra time to make it all perfect so it should be installed the week after next. The stone people seem as excited about doing this as we are!

beagle, I am envious! I wish i had a large kitchen to do the bookmatched island seam :(
This is going to be a piece of art. Please do a simple, flat edge. Sheet glass backsplash and let the stone be the star. If your range is on a wall, I may even run the blue bahia behind it as well so that you have all horizontal surfaces and one vertical surface in BB.

I am sorry, no quarts, caeserstone and other fakes (cultured, manmade or whatever the term is these days) come anywhere close to the look or attractiveness of natural stone. These two slabs speak for themselves.

pharaoh the bahia is on the island only. The perimeter counters (and backsplash) are statuario marble.

Are you going to do floor returns on the island? it would look smashing to continue the book matched slabs down the sides to the floor!
