polished nickel faucet with SS sink?

We really like the Perrin&Rowe polished nickel faucet, but DH wanted to go with a stainless steel sink. I don't think that they go together since the polished nickel has a yellowey tinge to it, while the SS sinks are more grey. Does anyone have this combination?

And then what do I do for cabinet knobs and fridge pulls?

My cabinets will be an off-white while the island will be stained a deep chocolate. The DW will be panelled with the deep chocolate and the fridge will be the off-white. The range will be stainless.

I have this combination and it looks well together. Mainly, if you chose a brushed nickel with a brushed stainless steel, they will mix well.

I actually think the polished nickel faucet can work with a stainless sink -- we often see polished chrome faucets in a (brushed) stainless sink, and it's not jarring.

What is your (proposed) sink like? Is it undermount? If so, that will definitely help in terms of keeping the two materials separate (visually, that is).

It's been said by others more eloquently, but if you like something it'll work out. We obsess over the minutiae which no one ever notices in the end: will this go with that teeny detail? At the same time, if something turns your stomach obey that feeling: you'll notice it every single time you enter the kitchen and regret it. Not worth it.

Tell us more about the proposed sink.

As far as i know, "Stainless Steel" is pure stainless through and through, in the body of the metal. "Vibrant SS" or any other adjective (or fancy name) is a PVD plating. As far as i see, drains get the worst possible conditions. Even worse than sinks. Or, as bad as the sink bottom gets. Nota: There are no chrome plated sinks. There are no brushed nickel sinks. -- As far as i know, most drains bought and sold are not plated. And none of the stainless drains. As far as i know, in terms of matchymatchiness, nobody ever notices that their drain assembly is pure stainless (when they have BN or chrome or something close to stainless) As far as i know, they never ship PVD stainless (fancy adjective in front of the word stainless) drains. Only "stainless" drains. In general, I think drains ought not to be plated, because they get the worst conditions. I'm eager to know what the guarantee is on plated kitchen drains. In bathrooms, plated drains are normal. Chrome. -- This information is provided in the spirit of sharing. I hope everyone takes it that way, permanently. Some people in GW's kitchen forum say at times that it sounds like males talk down to females. I don't think so, not a whit. When someone dumps a lot of information, it is not a bad thing. Be happy. When someone corrects buehl, it is OK too. We don't need to engage in self censorship just because it's buehl (a respected contributor). I seem to be the only one correcting buehl. I've done it before a couple times. Hey, shouldn't it be more normal? Side note over. -- Hth.

I really like the polished rim on my Ticor. It is beveled downwards and I haven't seen any scratches yet after 7 months. It adds a nice sparkle to the sink area and sorta "matches" my polished nickel faucet.

Thank you all so much for your replies--especially Buehl, whose picture is visible! (The red rectangle glitch really is strange.) The whole thing is positively gorgeous, by the way. Love how your counter reflects the trees. I see that the brushed faucet/shiny sink looks fine, so I will go forward. But I do think my sink may be EVEN SHINIER that yours, Buehl, and that has me worried. From the picture, it looks like yours is shinier on the rim than it is in the bowl. That's the way my current sink is: polished rim and brushed bowl. I thought this was standard and it's what I was expecting. By my entire sink is shiny like your rim. I hope this won't be a disappointment. I do think it might show scratches and yucky stuff more easily. Maybe this is why my sink is such a good deal online? I found multiple sites selling my model (the Blancowave 514-470, which is the same shape/size as yours, Buehl) for $500, a lot cheaper than anything I saw from Kohler, Franke, or Oliveri. I would really love to hear from someone who has a Blanco "satin polish" sink.... particularly if you can tell me that you like the finish and it's not the pain in the rear I fear it is.... :-)

Hi pluckymama! I don't know if I'll be of any help at all, considering I don't have a polished nickel faucet (P&R or otherwise), but I do have scads of polished nickel hardware throughout our kitchen. That finish, while gorgeous, absolutely does show smudging much more easily than any satin / brushed finish would. In our previous house we had a Grohe (polished) chrome faucet and the ever-present water spots on it drove me bananas. Nuts! So that's what partly informed my decision in this go-round to get a brushed finish, and I don't regret it for one minute. So you'd think I'd've chosen a similar finish for all the hardware, but I couldn't. My heart would not let me choose anything other than polished nickel, and even though it does show everything I wouldn't change it for the world. (well alright, maybe for the world, but you know what I mean!) I find it (the polished nickel) cleans up really easily, but it's a daily necessity (actually, only the fridge and freezer pulls need a daily wipe-down). That's something to think about, how much smudges / water spots will bother you, vice how much you desire the P&R polished nickel faucet. I have been told that over time nickel will get yellow-er, that's its tarnish. With all the protective coatings put on hardware these days who knows how long that'll take, though! Do you have any progress pictures to share? I am dying to see your space!

I certainly hope so. I thought they looked nice together, so we've selected the brushed nickel faucets with brushed stainless sink for both kitchen sinks. Perhaps your countertop colors and how the faucets are mounted will make a difference. The whole thing needs to work together; that's how you'll experience it visually.

I apologize for not gettting back sooner, but I have a few health issues that sideline me totally sometimes.

ntt hou - you answered that you have this combination, but you also mentioned that brushed nickel for the faucet and stainless/brushed stainless for the sink make a good combination. I agree with the latter comment, but I am uncertain about the polished nickel with stainless sink - is this what you have?

rmkitchen - yes, I agree that it is easy to obsess about things, and I have definitely been doing this. But, since I started with this question, I am going to try to finish with it. My sink will be an undermount 1 and 3/4 size either Blanco, Franke or Mekal. The faucet would be the P&R in polished nickel. I am starting to think that since the sink will be um, then you really won't see the two different colours until you peer into the sink, so maybe it will work out afterall.
