What color should I paint the cabinets

Hi all,

I need some help to make a decision on what color I should paint my cabinets. I love white, however, I am not 100% that would be the best option to do with the light cream floors that we installed recently...

Our kitchen is a small galley kitchen so I was thinking of lighter colors since the counter top is a bit darker and the back splash will be light coffee color as shows in the pictures. So I am trying to not make this kitchen look very dark..plus we have black with stainless steel appliances for now + dark hardwood around the kitchen.

Let me know which color choice would be good option for our kitchen. Thanks so much for the help!

How about a grey-blue?

Or a pale green?

The problem is that I like the warmth the wood brings to the white floor and the black counter, and I feel like painting the cabinets any of these complementary colors will leave the room lighter, but more stark. Is there a place in the room to add back a warm wood table or floating wood shelves or warm wood picture frames, so you don't lose that?

How invested are you in the light coffee backsplash? On my monitor they seem to have a pinkish undertone which will really limit the colors that will look good on the cabinets and go with the floor.

I am a sucker for sage green and think it would look good with the floor and counter. Just not sure about the backsplash.

There are about a billion shades of white, many of which have a hint of color or are complex neutrals (that seem to echo more than one color), some lighter and some deeper, so if you like white, it will just take some legwork to find the right one.

I think a rich green from the greens in the chair fabric. I don't see red against the white couch - too cottage feeling, not the look you are after. Also, you want to consider what side of the room it faces - the DR, and the fact that in there you have almost all brown tones. I think the green would be refreshing. The antique brass hardware will also be pretty against the green. Down the road you might look for a piece of granite or something like that to put on as a top. For now, you could decoupage the top with interesting postcards or photos, etc. and then place a piece of glass over it. You could also check out the veneers that can be added with adhesive. The other thing that could be very cool would be to get the textured paintable wallpaper in some modern design and put that on the doors and top before you paint it. Then protect the top with glass. Finally, consider doing the top in one of the hammered spray paint finishes, perhaps a bronze.

Why don't you consider a nice green color with a bit of a glaze for your cabinets? I did the cream with heavy glaze in my kitchen (your top link is my kitchen!) and I love them, but I never considered any other color and now that I've seen some green glazed cabinets - I think about redoing my island in green!!! (Its black now with the perimeter in glazed cream.) Green cabs would stand out nicely against your walls. There is a forum member here named Teppy and I'm attaching a link to her photobucket. She has a some inspiration photos on there with distressed green islands and they are gorgeous, as well as her own green island. F&B looks like it may be a green gray. You may want to look at Look at SW Oyster Bay and Pewter Green and other green grays and soft greens. You want it to be noticeably green vs gray, but the gray green cabinets in a rustic home like yours will be fabulous.

What colors are in the adjacent hall way or rooms? To make that bath appeal to the widest number of applicants, if it worked with the other colors nearby I could see a soft green or soft blue green, nothing too bright. And I'd swap out that shower curtain for white. I've seen pretty white shower curtains in a nylon or synthetic that look like cotton, have one in my guest bath. No liner required, hot water wash and a few minutes in the clothes dryer then hung warm...no ironing and crisp, unwrinkled.

Sherwin Williams Dover White 6385. A lovely soft, creamy white. Light enough to reflect the light, creamy enough to soften. My trim and kitchen cabinets are painted this color for a uniform look. You can check Houzz.com and search dover white kitchens. There are a number of examples that show dark counters paired with Dover white.

I think a grey blue or a pale green shown by the above poster would look great. If you pick grey blue make sure it's not too baby blue, but has good grey undertones and be ready (for either color) to try out big swaths of multiple colors. We have red oak floors and finding grey paint that doesn't reflect purple has been a nightmare.

Our kitchen is a light cream (I call it lemon chiffon cake) and we ended up with a blue grey backsplash similar to that shown. It's not installed yet but I found there were very few colors that worked in our kitchen. It was more like the color chose us rather than vice versa.

You might consider a two tone kitchen with blue grey bottom cabinets and a creamy white/cream uppers. I've been seeing that sort of combination more and more and think it looks lovely.
