My brother had it in his last house. It was put in a while ago (maybe in '98) so newest versions of the product may be different. He did not like it -- complained that any small cuts in it were very obvious because it looked white where it scratched, not black.
Maybe do some tests before you buy.

Dark colors in Corian and most other solid surfaces will definitely show white when scratched. Get a sample and scratch it. Scratches can come not only from cut marks but from moving a plate with a rough bottom across the top. We had a showroom display with black Corian and the scratches were very obvious. If you insist on solid surface, some dark Avonite colors don't show the white scratches but they may not give you the look you want; they are more sparkly. If I were you I'd consider Raven Caesarstone if you want a honed finish. It's not real dark black though, more of a charcoal color but pretty low maintainance. The price will probably be the same or less than Corian. Honed granite may well be about the same or less in price; maintaince varies depending on the stone and finish. If you see one that you like, try to get a sample and test it. The maintainance might not be as bad as you think. I have had Polished Absoulte Black for 15 years and never resealed it. It does show a lot of dust and crumbs though. In my new kitchen I'm using Lagos Blue Caesarstone and hoping I don't have to dust quite so often.

Hmmm...I have had Corian in "moss" for several years in our weekend home which we are now completely remodeling to become our year-round home. I really love it, soft feel, easy care. Not so crazy about my polished tropical brown granite in my "real" house - too hard, cold and shiny. And feel like I have the worst of both worlds cleaning the granite. On one hand it hides dirt so well I often don't see spills or crumbs left by the kids and don't realize it needs wiping until I put my hand down in it, eeww. On the other hand, just when i think I have it all clean & shiny I get at a certain angle and arggg! Streaks! But "moss" Corian is a speckled color so I guess the scratches don't show, and that counter got heavy use & abuse. Maybe I'll check out the caesarstone...it's slightly less shiny than polished granite yes?

I didn't like the shiny look of granite either, and my DH vetoed solid surface materials (don't ask). We looked at all kinds of matte materials (richlite, slate, some other stuff I don't remember) before going with soapstone for the matte finish.

Sorry this doesn't address black corian specifically but I wanted to let you know there is a different approach to get a dark matte counter.

fyi, my counters happen to have a lot of veining in them but you can get dark soapstones with minimal veining.

The honed Caesarstone is a Matte finish. If you do a search on this forum some pictures will probably come up. I remember someone posted pictures of her tops not too long ago.
