Help! What color should my faucets be?

Hi All,

We're in the middle of our kicthen reno. I've made many decisions based on opinions of people on this board...so many thanks. I'll post pics when we are done.

Right now I'm stuck on what color sink/bar faucets to purchase. We have cream cabinets with ORB hardware. Applianeces are all stainless steel. Sink will be charcoal siligranite from Blanco.

Do I go with stainless steel faucets or ORB faucets?

Hey there, happy! Here's a pic of what we ended up with -- i have ORB hardware, and some had told me that my faucet should match (maybe the same people who tell me my purse and shoes have to match -- I never listen to them!) I thought that an ORB faucet would end up looking trendy/dated, and chose SS also to be less noticeable against a bit of gray backsplash and a window. I have the Anthracite Silgranit sink as well. I'm happy with the look.

You can do either but my preference would be stainless steel to go with the charcoal sink.

I like the idea on your garage door being dark oak -- maybe consider a creamy beige or gray for your trim. Some unique shutters on those two front windows may add some "pop" too.

Hi There. My first instinct was also Navy but any other the above will work. Here are 4 color scheme options from Benjamin Moore. The darker shades for the shutters. Lighter shade for body and trim. Benjamin moore has a wonderful tool that you can use to see what it looks like on a house. Hope this helps.

Since it is all so open, I would paint the same color in the kitchen, dining and living. Maybe the creamy white of your dining chairs would work throughout. If you don't want to paint the kitchen, you could bring that same color into the dining/living. Or you could take another shade from that same color strip/card and bring that into the living/dining. Other improvements: your rugs are too small, and so are your lamps. Your dining light is dated and your art is dissonant and not hung correctly. The coffee table is too large and heavy, and I would match drapes to the wall color once you figure that out. I do like your red cabinet and blue cache-pot! Have you thought about installing drown molding? How high are your walls? Here's a creamy white on walls (Navajo White) and brighter on trim (White Dove) so you can get the idea, even though this is not the style of your home.

I would go with white gutters. Get a larger size, which is what my roofer recommended and it has worked well. Paint the downspouts to blend with the siding. Or use rain chains.

SS...for the reasons above plus the facts that (1) ORB finishes on faucets, etc. are easily damaged by some cleaning products and (2) some people here have had issues w/ORB fixture finishes in general.

I don't like dark faucets -- not only a trendy thing, but also darker/dirtier feel. I would always pick the stainless or even a chrome one. I wanted a clean sparkle at my main sink and in front of the window and against the honed marble, so my main faucet is chrome. My prep faucet, against a black counter, is brushed. The cabinet hardware on the island is black, btw.

Do consider the counters and splash, which you don't mention. That's what the faucet will be seen in front of and on top of.

Also, a caveat for ORB faucets---we had an ORB faucet in our old kitchen (purchased by PO). In just three years, the "oil-rubbed" finish rubbed right off down to bare steel. It's one thing to develop a patina, but that was pushing it. Same problem with the doorknob, which was Schlage. Really, really frustrating---I wouldn't use ORB again on house parts that get such heavy use (although one contractor says some brands are better than others---he recommended Baldwin's ORB finish for doorknobs). Keep the ORB for the pulls and handles, I think.

Jossfan your kitchen is lovely!

Chrome is definitely the most durable finish for a faucet and is highly recommended for water applications.

Are you talking about chrome / brushed chrome or actual SS?

I prefer faucets to match stainless appliances, regardless of other hardware color.
