Room Divider - Need Creative Ideas!!
Comments (27)It's almost like Christmas morning!! I woke up to a many more gifts! Thank you. Karin, thank you for the insight. I absolutely love the idea of an armoire. It would be beautiful, but I do not think practical. I am in those files many, many times each day. The ones to the right of my desk are customer files, the rolling files on the floor hold a few more customer files plus other info I need access to. Patty and Mary, the bookcase idea sounds like a possible as well. Les, you have given me even something more to think about. Several others mentioned this as well -- purpose of this room. As I said, this is a center hall colonial. 20 years ago we added 5' to our family room and added a large sunroom on the back of that. Since that time (and even before that) the living room has just been for show, not function. Several years ago my sons suggested moving my office from the basement, where dry as it was, it was still a basement. I was so very reluctant, because after all I was going to disparage the living room. So I put the desk and files in and bought the screen. While a very large room, shoving everything down just made it worse, because now I had just moved the living room over to make room for the office. I recently got rid of the sofa and two tables. That was great. I had my family room furniture delivered and they would take away any used furniture for free and donate to a furniture bank. I had the sofa and a chair (37 years old). One of the men said he knew someone who could use it and asked if that was okay with me. It felt good because I knew it was going to be put to use. It was in perfect condition - I just didn't want it anymore. Anyway, this has all made me realize that this room is primarily an office and I should embrace that - I am going to start by moving things around. Thank you, Les. I do love the bookcase divider idea as well. I have been thinking of moving the desk anyway, as it is starting to "alligator" in the sun. My father brought this home from work many years ago and refinished it. I can still see his hands on it, so want to preserve it. Les, if you are still out there, --- you mentioned a loveseat to the left as you walk in the room. You cannot see well from the pictures, but there is a very large window there. I don't think I would want a large piece against the window. Thanks again to all who helped me. Now, I just need to break the news to my dear, dear husband that I have yet another "plan"....See MoreDo you use/love your sun shelf/baja shelf?
Comments (15)We are about to remodel our pool and have these "wedding cake" type steps that I want to replace with a larger "Carribean shelf/Baja shelf" as well. The sleeve for an umbrella seems like a must. With regard to kids using it, my two are now teenagers and they don't seem to like anything we, as their parents, decide to do.....so I'm making my decision independent of their likes or dislikes. However, one big reason I would like to have this in the pool is for our labrador retrievers. If you let dogs use your pool, it's a bonus for them....See MorePB or Ballard?? NEED HELP! Shelf with hanging rod for laundry room.
Comments (4)Are you able to return them if you don't like them? I think Ballard is just mail order, right? FWIW, we bought the PB curtain rods. Felt like we paid too much but they are very sturdy and look nice (better than the cheaper ones sold at BB&B, for example)....See MoreCreative ideas needed for small entrance /laundry room
Comments (11)A benefit of un-stacking the washer and dryer is that it gives you a convenient spot to sort and fold clothes, on top of the appliances. As you have it now, I don't see that you have a good place for that. It's nice not to have to do it bending down to the floor. Some good ideas here. This one looks so much like your arrangement with the window and width of the room, although if it were me I wouldn't put use those metallic boxes, but rather leave the full depth for laundry sorting etc. A room like this can be a bit more fun and less serious than a living room or kitchen e.g. if not wallpaper then a fun colour for the walls or cabinets. I love the one with the pale blue cabinets in the link above. I see you don't have a laundry tub in that room. Depending on your family's needs, it might be a good addition for muddy/messy things coming into your house. Or even a lower-placed slop sink or dog washing station. This one is just a simple shower pan. A hanging bar can go over either a high or low sink, for dripping wet things. Just throwing out ideas here. Depending on how much storage you add, the cost of storage cabinets can add up. It can even get pricey to buy fancy storage boxes for open shelving. Resale places like ReStore are one option, and paint them to your liking. Since this is not going into your kitchen you don't need to be that fussy about the quality of the paint finish. Or use open storage and put a short cafe-style curtain across each shelf to hide the contents....See Morea2gemini
