Looking for a granite or similar vanity top WITHOUTa white sink!
Comments (4)Kohler makes sinks in about 20 different colors. They can be special ordered from most any big box or plumbing showroom and then any granite fabricator can mount them to whatever slab of granite that you choose. Dark colors like black or cobalt show water spotting horribly. The medium colors like Mexican sand are a good compromise between white and a dark color, but then I think of all of those bathrooms out there that thought that pink or yellow fixtures would be a good idea at the time. THe light colors that area almost white like the biscuit, bone, or green tea would have the longest staying power and eventual matchability and still not be white. But, there's a LOT to be said in favor of classic white....See MoreAny granite similar look to marble?
Comments (8)Perhaps the closest is "Taj Mahal", which is actually a quartzite. The downside is that you generally have to buy a slab, and they can be pricey and hard to find. Comments (12)htracey, I could have written your original post! *I* could live with the normal patina of marble. But knowing how my husband is, there's no way it will end up with a normal patina in our particular house. Too many times, on our current dark (antique brown) granite, do I find dried on food or spills, whether it be from boiled shrimp or crawfish (we're in Louisiana) or drippings from a messy sandwich from him or apple juice, gatorade, soup, etc. from one of our kids that he or they didn't wipe up. Not only that, but my daughter loves to draw and color at our island. I can't stop our everyday lives because of our countertop choice. If I was there to wipe things up EVERY TIME everyone ate, it'd be fine. But that's not real life. So, I'm now looking at granite and quartzite and even quartz. I'm changing my focus. But I'm not going to get something that's pretending to be something it's not. In other words, I can't get something that is trying to be marble but isn't really marble. So I'm looking at other white stones with gray in them (and maybe other shades as well) but that have a slightly different look to them. Maybe you should look at it that way also? Having said that, Bianco Romano is a lovely granite. White Macaubus is a gorgeous quartzite. I've never seen the Madre Perla (above) locally but it looks lovely too!...See MoreGranite that looks like marble
Comments (18)The name of the stone is Golden Vyara. I will try to do that. Don't have much time or access to food sources right now - no kitchen! But I should be able to come up with a few trial liquids. Glad, They are closed the day before and the day after Thanksgiving, as well as the actual day. I noticed that sign up about their closing today. If you are looking for a particular stone you could always call them to see if it would be worth the trip, or if you will be staying over somewhere for a few days you might be able to catch them on the way back. I think they have both the older, lighter Costa Esmeralda and the newer, darker one, but the older one is probably getting harder to find and the cost is still going up. I saw both and am no near as fond of the newer one. They said it comes from Iran, and has to go to Italy then here, and therefore is getting very hard to get in these times. I am not sure anyone in Iran is willing to import directly to the U.S. anymore. Politics and war effect everything, even kitchen countertops. They didn't have any of the other stones mentioned, but I will look them up on the web. I could always ask if they were likely to get any in the future. Sue...See Moressdarb
