Help! How can I make my new couch look better??
Comments (44)I like the sofa but it needs space.....consider emptying the room of anything on wall, table, or mantle so it is basiccally empty, and place items removed on dining room table for future reference. Put the sofa on any wall where it has room for end tables. Put the chair where it can have a conversation with the sofa. At this point I would redo the curtains to coordinate with the wall and do them in a linen type weave. Remove the crystal chandelier and replace with something simple and maybe oil rubbed bronze. Go shopping for a large piece picture in a simple or frameless style that blends with the plaid pillow; take the pillow with you if necessary. So far so good. If you have end tables and a cocktail table put them in the room only if you like them. If they are wood that should be fine. Send us a picture of the whole room taken from another room so we can see the size etc of the room. I am showing this inspiration room because it is very simple with very trad furniture, but the mantle is very low key and would work nicely in your living room style I think. Also note the colorful throw on the arm chair. This is same room, but wood tables and metal cocktail table, simple window treatments in tones found in living room, and antique armoire that is similar to your Moms tallish piece by fireplace. TV opposite sofa and easy chair for great viewing This looks great; metal table, magazine rack in oil rubbed bronze, brass Pharmacy lamp for reading. Would work next to Mom's chair......these items can be found on line at Ballard Design and other places too; overstock.com, wayfair.com with great prices and great selection. Plaid pillows, one bright color pillow and another item in room (the end table, but could be lamp, vase, picture) done in a bright color to match pillow in intensity. And the upholstered ottoman adds a fun touch, but sized to match the sofa. Again a rustic trad feel with a pair of large photos over sofa. Great ottoman, lamps, footstool. Pillows match colors in photos of family members.... These are just inspiration but it might help you select the items that the room needs to frame and support the sofa style and colors. Nothing set in stone but a place to begin....See MoreHow could I make my bathroom look better?
Comments (66)My first choice on the location of the caddy around the hallway's sink is behind the faucet above the backsplash (first picture). If you need to place high items in it then maybe you should place it lower (like first picture 2nd row). The reason why I don't like it on the side is because it is a narrow area and your arms and hands will always hit the caddy. As for the caddy,in the shower, it really is not a decorative element. Just think of it as functional. You can keep your shower curtain closed when it is dry. The only comment I have on the location that high is that soap scrum tends to accumulate on those wires. How easy will it be for you to clean it?...See MoreHow could I make my closet look better?
Comments (7)Try to focus on coordinating materials and colors. Right now you have plastic storage in different colors, some black fabric storage, brown hanging fabric storage, etc. I would consider moving the hanging “shelves” to a different area or using the built-in cubes for sweater storage, or whatever you have there now. I would get all the same color fabric cube storage or baskets if you want to invest in that, and put your cleaners and other small things in those along the top shelf. I would also consider adding more shelves to the cubes, either diy or with some type of insert since I don’t see those being very useful without that, it seems like too much vertical space. I’m not a fan of the look of the hanging shoe bags but they’re useful so I wouldn’t get rid of it. Hanging from shelves will look neater than using hooks for colorful clothes, and also just in general for such a small space. It’s a great size for a closet, hopefully some of those suggestions help....See MoreHow can i make my room look better?
Comments (8)Your idea books show your love of traditional library decor and rich colors. I think. That your current wall color, however, clashes with the lovely color of your new sofa bed. And you do seem to have too much furniture in the room at this point. I think that I would, first, strip all of your wall paper and prime your walls. Then I would fin a traditional oriental style rug for your room and center it. From the rug, I would choose a complimentary color for your walls. Then....I would begin to build your room. The perfect location for your “library area” would be in the nook where your sofa currently resides. The entire wall could be book shelves. What kind of storage does your room require? (There is no closet.). Do you need the little glass cases in the corner? If you need a dresser for guests, the large dresser will work. You could place the tv on it or hang it on the wall above it. Your sofa needs end tables with reading lamps on it. I think the sofa would look best on the top wall in the room. Centered. The TV on the left wall as you enter it. And the room could use a chair in which to sit and read, too. Located close to the window with the radiator on the right, and in front of your library wall. This is a one step at a time project. But I would start with finding a lovely rug for your room that works with the sofa. Good luck!...See MoreNewYardInGa
