I've posted mine before, but here it is again. I definitely suggest hen & chicks or sedum that can really take being dry. Otherwise you are a slave to them and if you miss a day or two of watering, they're done for. I didn't line mine - just planted directly in them, no drain holes, but did cut a hole in the toe and planted it also. I leave mine out all winter. I never water mine - they only get the occasional rain and once in awhile the hose hits them if I happen to be watering something else near them, which hardly ever happens. I've never done cowboy boots - only work boots, but I'm thinking it would be neat to fill them with dirt and cut holes up and down the sides to plant sort of like a strawberry pot. I will be watching this thread! I am also at a loss as to what to do with mine. There are so many here with beautiful rooms. It is my next project to tackle - I need new furniture badly - just trying to figure out what I want. Hope you get a lot of responses!!

I have a lot of things in my LR that I love. But I haven't quite mastered pulling them all together to make it flow. I've got an early 1900's Hooiser Cabinet that came from my great-grandmother's farm. I've got an old paint/wallpaper sign that my parents had at their flower shop and interior decorating store. My RED chaise chair. My native stone fireplace. Like I said, I've not perfected the "look" in my space yet. Hopefully one of these days.

Joaniepoanie, I only paid $5 for the headboard at a local auction (I think they were just happy to have someone haul it away, but it was just what I was looking for!) and $175 for the armoire (Kincaid still sells it for $2200; I know the market is dead for armoires but it has drawers for clothing, and the opening is large enough for the size TV we'll use. Also, I don't like seeing TVs in the bedroom). One nightstand I purchased for $30 and another I had. So, I don't have too much invested. Bbstx, I love that armoire, but I imagined painting the armoire a solid color, with a glaze to give it depth, like coll_123 mentioned. I did a piece DH made for the laundry room, and liked the way it came out. Olychick and nosoccermom, I love those beds! And Thefoxespad, thanks for the info about cane drying out after painting. That's making me rethink my original plan because I don't want to lose that $5 investment! And, yagaga, that color is scrumptious, but I don't think it will go will the shade of blue walls I have; depending on the time of day, they're alternately blue, gray, and blue-purple. Coll_123, you are a wealth of information! I'm thinking now of using the rock miracle to remove the stain from the cane and leaving it natural, then painting the trim. If I do that, would you all suggest painting the armoire and nightstands the same color? Maybe a cream? Or go with the more brown-gray in my 2nd pic?
