Comments (53)I think you are asking me? If not....sorry... I will take the tile up cabinet height around my window as there are cabinets on both sides.....I am leaving the rest of the window without trim as I have 2 & 7/8" from cabinet to edge of window...and thought I would put a small trim around it...but then when they put the light rail up there is only 1 & 7/8"..so think it's too small for trim.....What is everyone's opinion? Just found out today...that the guys that was going to do the tile (looks like they work as a team) won't be able to do it until the one that is having knee surgery is able to work ...which could be weeks!! He came today to get paid for all the other work he did...and I asked him if his partner would go ahead and put the tile up.....He is suppose to let me know... Oh well I've waited this long....and really not long at all...so a few more weeks is OK....just anxious to see the kitchen completely finished...now that I finally have the Subway tile sitting in boxes waiting to be installed....See MoreMother of pearl tile backsplash
Comments (55)I am shopping for short finger tile to use as an accent strip in my small bathroom..it will run around the walls at chair rail height and around the tub, back the niche then back out..the tiles are glass, marble and MOP on some kind of ceramic base. I was told by different sales people there was no need to seal...but others say the marble should be sealed...I am concerned that using it in the tub/shower..and using a squeegie on the wall where it will run over the MOP numerous times will loosen the shell from the base tile...also hard water spots might be a problem and I am concerned to use any acid based cleaner on it...should I look for a tile without marble or shells in it? I don't want to have to maintain the accent tile...See MoreSea Pearl needs a backsplash II
Comments (150)Peke, you will get a beautiful look with just one color of the crackle. My silver has about 4-5 different tiles within the mix of them, having plenty enough interest. If you start mixing more than one color together (unless it's a mosaic), it's going to be crazy. I know cuz I wanted to mix some blues in with the silver & both my KD & the tile sales girl said NO. I can see now that it would have ruined the mix. It ends up all blending together & creating a beautiful, interesting look with depth (and sparkle when you get close). Not a busy look. It all blends. I like the Riviera better than the Bali. Sounds like you do too. That's one eliminated. You don't like the celery (the description has yellow sage in it). Two gone. The Moonlight isn't doing much for the Sea Pearl & I'm guessing the Ice isn't either? The Storm is going to give you the most variation, the 5th on the left side of the tile board. My tiles sat on my counter for 6 weeks because I thought they were too taupey & I wanted some blue. Once they were up & grouted, a totally different look. Like Bookworm said, you just have to pick. I think you now have the largest collection of Encore samples on Gardenweb. I love crackle tiles. If Seapearl's tile isn't in this bunch, there are more manufacturers of beautiful crackle. Here the level of variation in your samples: Ice -minimum variation Moonlight-moderate Sky- minimum to moderate Bali - moderate Riviera - moderate Mint - moderate Celery- minimum to moderate Cashmere- moderate to high Lagoon-moderate Slate-moderate to high Storm-high Stream- high Cameo (bookworm's) - moderate Silver- (mine) - moderate This post was edited by romy718 on Sun, Mar 16, 14 at 13:35...See MoreMOP backsplash in, walls painted, all done w/ real pics soon
Comments (37)Thanks for the nice comments, all. I hope to take pics tomorrow and get them up Monday. @jam sf we actually ordered it through a tile store in Key West ( nowhere near us, long story) but I have seen similiar tile online, including at Amazon. I'm sure there are other patterns as I've seen some on this board, but I never looked into it because I knew I wanted the 1-inch mosiac. @willemsen: we used Bright White. We did a sample of Alabaster but felt it made the tile look pinkish. I was worried that the bright white would be too white, but we're thrilled with the final look. And yep, it does sparkle with the UCLs on. :) more to come, I promise....See Morebeckyg75
