what will your backsplash be?

have not decided. would like to do something with a little color but i think countertop color might determine ?

If you are thinking white/grey, you might look into Vermont Danby marble - I think it is the same as some of the quartzites you may have looked at. I'm attaching the link to their products.

I have different colors (greenish-grey stone flooring, chestnut and espresso cherry cabinets) but am looking at grey/white with hint of green/blue for the countertops and the danby fits that requirement.

My backsplash will be one of the recycled glass tiles from Kawaii/sumi-e (different sources call it different names - Anchorbaytile and mosaicsource both have it - mosaicsource has more choices, I think). Ohara has some brown and green and grey and blue, but they are all subtle colors in that choice. Lots of other options. Goes well with stainless, too.

I don't have pictures to post yet - the cabinets are on order, and won't be in for another month!

We have white/off white cabinets, and went with a gray granite countertop called Moon Night. I also love the look of Vermont Danby marble with white cabinets.

I LOVE the idea of marble, but I have been told it is not a good choice for kitchen due to having to seal and easily stains. I'm not sure if that's truly the case? We plan to use marble in our master bathroom - honed marble countertop.

Calypsochick - gorgeous! exactly the look I'm going for. I'll check into Moon night - I know everyone has different names so I hope to find something similar.

As we were considering options for our kitchen, I developed a small obsession with Silver Cloud, which would suit your criteria for a gray. Unfortunately it seems to be only available in Georgia, where it is quarried, and in Canada (and the UK).

A local fabricator/installer was able to get a sample from Quebec and would have been able to get the stone, but we ended up deciding it was too light for us. We may be able to use it when we redo our bathroom in the next year or so.

But the Moon Night is lovely also, as is the Danby. So many choices, so few kitchens! (We ended up with honed jet mist)

lcm_maine - great pics! thank you thank you. I love the gray white combo of that color. I'm headed to slab yard tomorrow to search. How has the honed worked for you in the kitchen?

The Vermont Danby marble is reported to be pretty sturdy - closer to a granite than a marble. I would not be surprised to hear that light granite stains more than dark granite, since half of whether something stains is whether or not you notice the stain.

My suggestion is - if you love something, get a sample of it, seal it, and then test it with various things that could stain it. And consider in your test how you live - will you really leave a red wine spill on the countertop overnight? And sealing is not that big a deal - no worse than waxing a tabletop - as long as you are the type who is organized enough to remember to do it.

I recommend you do the "torture test" with whatever you pick, regardless of what kind of material it is (granite, marble, silestone, etc).

We are still in the "babying" mode with the countertop but are very pleased with the look, feel and maintenance of the honed finish.

I found Blue Eye's which is closest to the Labrador Antique I liked - Blue Eye's has that gray I'm looking for. It's pricey. I have been told that moon night is as well - that the whiter/grayish granites that resemble a marble are harder to come by and therefore priced higher.

We went with Typhoon Bordeaux. It has creams, browns, greys, blacks and a little bit of red/purple. It may be a little too busy for your tastes.

I'm a little behind but I just have to say Threebees, your kitchen is gorgeous. Love the clean lines. We are doing a design somewhat similar. All the best.

If you're considering quartz, what about DuPont Zodiaq Lunar Pearl? It is one of the less expensive colors:

chocolate bunny - two great finds in the quartz! We came across a great slab of "superwhite" granite and are just so happy. It's more grey than white but it's superb. I was this close to goign with the quartz for that same feel. Thanks!

yes, calypsochick, they are the same. i finally figured that out and this granite warehouse near us got in 7 slabs. it's more gray than yours, but same overall look. i'm so so so happy, i love it. going to pick our slabs saturday. thanks for the idea.
