What do you mean by properly prepared? They are new, bare, paint grade cabinets. Would Aura be comparable to Cabinet Coat as far as preventing chipping.

Let the man use what he prefers. There are better products for cabinets than Aura. With that said, however, Aura is no shrinking violet in the line up of paint choices for cabinetry. If he likes to (if he can) use Aura and it's included, there's no reason to complicate things and making choices to keep happy the one who is doing the actual labor can bring benefits. Properly prepped surface and Aura in a light gray semi should serve you nicely for many years to come.

Thanks---@beekeeperswife, did you use the water-based Satin Impervo, or the old oil-based? (We can't get the oil-based Impervo here anymore, though we might be able to finagle it through an auto shop---but it's trickier.) The water-based Satin Impervo is also a latex, yes? I do read about people using that with some success. I think the Aura he's talking about using is the Aura Semi-Gloss Waterborne Interior paint, which is listed as "acrylic with proprietary resins" (vs. Impervo, which is "acrylic latex"--not sure what the differences are?) Both have wood listed as a recommended use on the BM site, but I'm not sure how much stock to put in that since half their paints say that...

For walls, we used Benjamin Moore Aura, Revere Pewter in Matte finish, and are very pleased with it. Eggshell would be slightly glossier, and probably wash a little better, but I prefer the Matte finish. Benjamin Moore Aura Paint For cabinetry, Benjamin Moore Advance in Satin finish.
