Will 2 different brands of single wall ovens look odd?
I posted this question on the Appliances forum and received some very welcome advice, including the suggestion that I post here regarding the design question.
I plan to use two separate single wall ovens, one on an inconspicuous wall and the other in a peninsula's base cabinet. For the peninsula, I'm thinking of an Electrolux Icon or Wave Touch. Because of the price difference, the choice depends on how much I spend on the other oven.
I would appreciate help in deciding whether the wall oven on the other side of the room (to the left of the dishwasher shown in the drawing below) needs to be the same as the peninsula oven. Would it look strange to use either an LG single wall oven or a Frigidaire Gallery in the wall spot, when the Icon or Wave Touch is in the peninsula? The purpose for having different makes is strictly to save money. Otherwise, I would be happy with 2 Icons.
I was all set to use two different ovens, then an appliance salesman convinced me that I should buy two of the same, either the Elux or the less expensive one, since two different oven styles would look odd. Now I'm rethinking whether to get 1 Elux Icon and a basic Frigidaire. I'm not sure whether the appearance would be strange, since they're pretty far apart.

Comments (3)I share your envy! I tried researching that a few years ago, and didn't really find anything. Heartland appliances used to make a 1.5 oven, but it's not on their website anymore. I've posted a link below. As for a 1/2 height single oven, I don't know about that either. The closest I could find was the advantium, but I don't think that's what you want either. Comments (8)I'm not real clear what is on that wall, but the look of a stack is important and they should at least go together. They don't have to match. I was about to say that one wall oven in an inconspicuous area and another undercounter would not bother me, but what you didn't mention is that they are right across from each other and the second wall oven is installed at nearly the same height, so visually there is more connection that it sounded like. I think you can do it, but this might not be the best setup for it. It might be okay, especially with related appliances, but I'm not that familiar with the current design details of the various brands you are looking at. You want some consistency in overall style -- handle styles, the framing of the doors, etc. and no major color variations (stainless finishes do not all match -- most will blend just fine)....See MoreStacking steam and wall oven different brands
Comments (4)We tested both out yesterday. The Wolf is more user friendly to us. We don't like the extra steps of setting steam level, temp and time each time with Miele. The time having to be set the biggest drawback for us because it shuts off once time expires and you have to reset everything. Prob not a big deal when you eventually store your favorites and figure things out but initially it seems to be a pain. We also liked the smooth bottom of the wolf vs the grooves in the Miele. Smooth is obviously easier to clean and with the water staying on bottom vs going to the reservoir in Miele, it seems easier to clean. At least that's what we saw in our demo. The Pirch chef kinda steered us towards the Wolf too but of course you take everything they say with a grain of salt. We might just wait for the new Wolf M series fan to come out. It's supposed to be this quarter and our install is probably another two months away. Re: range, good point. We are doing a 4 burner induction paired with 2 gas module. I'm not sure if that configuration is available in a range but that defeats purpose of getting the discounted Miele wall oven :) I'll call to see if I can do wall oven under the cooktop....See MoreStacking steam and wall oven different brands
Comments (6)Number of sales isn't really a great measure for quality. Lot's of crap that gets sold every day. I agree that each manufacturer has a narrow core competency, and then rounds out their product palette with additional appliances that consumers ask for. Sometimes, these products are sourced from third parties (e.g. Wolf's CSO that comes from V-Zug) and sometimes they are just a half-hearted in-house engineering effort. Both Samsung and LG on the surface appear to be driven by marketing rather than engineering. So, I'd be hesitant to recommend the brands, but I admitted don't know this particular appliance. It might just be a positive surprise. As for @Rebecca Canna's concern about oven capacity, I wouldn't let that drive my purchase decision. We have a Miele XL combination steam oven (small by most American standards) and a Bluestar gas range (unbelievably large by most metrics). The Miele is by far our most frequently used appliance (in fact, it's in use as we speak). The available space is very rarely a limitation. I'd pick two small ovens over one large oven any day of the week. Having said that, the Bluestar oven is nice. But that's more because of its amazing broiler than because of its size. Incidentally, one advantage of smaller size is faster preheat, where the Bluestar needs 20-40 minutes, the small Miele CSO frequently needs less than 5 minutes....See More

They look great together! Because they're juxtaposed and the same type of appliance, it's my preference that they look similar. But if appliances are not juxtaposed or if they're not the same type of appliance, all bets are off in my book. (My wall oven is next to a refrigerator of a different brand, and they don't look very similar except the finish.) So what I'm trying to say is: it'll look fine if you get two dissimilar wall ovens, since they're not right next to each other, IMHO.

11 years agoI have 2 ovens of different brands. I have a GE trivection on one wall and I have a Viking in the island. Both are black....that's the uniting element.
